coombe junction - BCN - LGW - OXF - STD - BCN...

Update - Returned late last night from a fabulous weekend in the UK :D

The 2FS EXPO really was terrific. Such a nice bunch of friendly, helpful people, fantastic layouts and for me finally a chance to put a few faces to names from the Association and RMWeb - I won't list names as it will look like an Oscar acceptance speech, but it was a real privilege to spend a weekend and be amongst and talk to modellers who have been and continue to be an inspiration to me.

I would have loved to have got Coombe Junction to the EXPO and I guess it has further motivated me to try and crystalise a solution to make it transportable economically. One thing that came out of Guinness fueled evening discussions was the idea to perhaps start with the Moorswater board (No. 3) and run it with a series of cassettes which could span eras starting with the clay hoods, then on to CDA's and finally with the current PCA's.

Food for thought...In the meantime, I attach a couple of pics of the storyboard display (Thanks again Mike ;) ) and the mock up models that I did manage to squeeze into my hand luggage.

Pete,

I'm glad that you had a great weekend; that mockup really does look fanatstic. I know that you've posted it before, but what materials do you use to create these.

Judging from their quality, this must be some form of skill that you've trained for..? and judging from everything that you've posted before, I often wondered whether you were an architect or structural engineer. With an electrical/avionics engineering background, I don't have your skills... but I'll continue to try.. after all, where would we be if we didn't occassionally stand in awe.

Thanks for the moment of awe.... Jon

Pete,

Nice to finally meet you and spend some time talking about tiny trains.

Personally, I found the display a fitting replacement for the layout itself. The scale models were a new concept to me and might be something I will be using in the future.

Doh. Something else I missed. Ah, well it was good to meet you. When the layout comes to the UK it will be great to see it. If not we may have to visit Barcelona. It is one of the places in Spain that we wished to visit but haven't fitted in to our travels.

Hi Pete :)

Oh expletive! How on earth did I miss that stuff? I really wanted to see it as well. Your work is immaculate, its all so well finished I just wanted to see it for real. I guess thats one of the downsides to exhibiting something at a show in that you miss so many other bits there.

At least I got to talk to you though.

Jon, Hi

Many thanks...that would be an Architect...I was an Architect with Norman Foster's studio for 11 years prior to moving to Barcelona.

All the mock ups are from my preferred material card. Normally 1mm white card with a sprinkling of plain white postcard for the finer details. It's sort of come full circle, as I was making model trains prior to architectural School, and that background helped with my making of architectural models...and that learning now feeds back in to my making of models for my trains.

As with any model, I reccomend a good base, a sharp blade changed regularly (I use a 10A blade in a Swann Morton scalpel handle) and if you can, a set of plans to work from.

Thanks Rich - Nice talking with you too.

Perhaps I can persuade the 2FS Association to do the 60 year EXPO in Barcelona...that would solve my layout travel problem

Hi Missy - it happens like that - when I did the one day show with my boxfile layout, I didn't get to see any of the other layouts and traders.

On the back of that, I set up the display, left it and rather selfishly made sure I spent as much time soaking up everyone else's fab models...that said, I realised last night I missed seeing the splendid 9F from Two mm Locomotives

Never mind...it was very nice to talk with you after 18 months speaking via the Forum!

Nick,

Many thanks - It was nice to talk with you too over the two days - I have posted some photos of Line No. 4 on the 2mm Expo topic that Missy set up.

your photos make it look far better than it is

however far from discouraged by things I find that a resumption with modelling will be very shortly, was given some great tips, ideas and encouragement.

Without doubt talking with Martin Allen ( Haverhill South ) who surveyed one of the few remaining buildings at Guilford Colliery and recognised it pleased me considerably

Don - Likewise...Definately 'Blue Peter badges' to be worn next time - I saw some of your posts re the show so realised that we must have been in the same room together at some stage of the weekend - I think I read that you made some purchases from the 2FSA shop, so perhaps we might meet as exhibitors next time!
