DBS class 189s with automatic couplers

Might be of interest for the Continental modellers on here: DB Schenker engines 189 030, 031, 032 and 036 have been spotted with automatic couplers which they recently had fitted at the Siemens plant in Munich. All in all, engines 189 030 through 047 are scheduled to be fitted with these couplers, in order to handle ore trains from Rotterdam to Dillingen without the need for changing locos at the Dutch-German border.

Three images are now on railcolor.net, such as this one of 189 030: Click.

Note the yellow corners on the frame, meant to distinguish these 189s from the rest.

Agenoria RSH 0-6-0

Hi Everyone.

I've been enviously watching the pages here for some time now, wishing I had the skill (or is that courage?) to have a go at posting a kit build. I've put together a few whitmetal loco bodies, and am not scared of the soldering iron - but the chassis and valve gear has frightened me off so I have stalled from progressing.

I figure posting this one as I go my help my confidence, and I can hopefully get good advice if I do get in a bind , so here goes...

I'm building an Agenoria Models RSH 0-6-0 industrial tank:

I chose this one because I liked the chunky, no-nonsense look of the prototype (East Coast Main Line, and exotic one-offs being my usual area of curiosity).

I ordered the complete kit, with wheels, motor and gears. It arrived with a set of instructions for another of Agenoria's kits, an oversight quickly rectified by the gent at Agenoria. Here's the box:

When you open it up, there's plenty of brass for your buck. The frames and motion are nickel-silver, the boiler and smokebox etches are pre-formed, and there are a bag of whitemetal fittings, as well as some brass crossheads, handrail knobs, gubbins for pickups and handrail wire. This is what it all looks like:

The kit can make either the Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns, or Yorkshire Engine versions of this loco, and so there are spare etches for cab sides and smokebox saddles. I'm going to build the RSH version, preferring the straight sided cab to the raked-in YE version. The differences can be seen on this drawing provided with the kit:

A YE example is preserved, and I have found photos of her online, but have yet to see an actual photo of an RSH example - which is modelling heresy, I guess (I agree Iain Rice is correct in saying that a kit should be used as a starting point to build a model of a specific prototype... but when you're 10,000 miles away in Perth, Australia, sometimes the research borders on the impossible). I'm no master modeller, folks, so I'll live with the compromise!

Okay, I'm at the starting point. The instructions would have me begin with the superstructure. But knowing that the chassis will make or break me, I'm going to skip ahead and start there.

Coach interior detailing pack

I have been throwing a few ideas around for a coach detailing sheet that could be printed on to self adhesive paper. Some of the elements that could be included are seat fabrics, wood panelling, posters, curtains, newspapers and editable destination boards (and blinds for DMUs) (similar to my station sign packs). With coach lighting becoming more common, adding just a few simple elements like these would really pay dividends (I personally have rakes of both Mk3 and Mk1 stock crying out for something more than a single colour plastic insert).

I will most probably produce two or three separate sheets to cater for different eras.

Basically I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good source of information for interior coach details.

Any ideas, suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated...

New FGW MK3 coaches

Hi

Ive been quite looking forward to Hornby producing FGW's new dynamic lines livery on the HST and i just noticed that they have released the MK3 coaches.... after gazing at them from all different angles in the cabinet something just didn't look right... there is way too much blue on the coach.. the roof should be black. Also to note is the poorly produced dynamic lines on the carrige sides, they look like a sticker!! perhaps some decent weathering might sort them out but to me they looked quite toy-like and belonged in the railroad range

Hopefully the power cars when released will be better than the coaches...

looking foward to hearing what other people think about these or is it just me being picky?

Blog- RJRs Branch Lines - Guards van

Tonights update...

Well last night I started work on a guards van, but as it was all made from white plasticard I didnt bother posting any pictures as as always an all white model shows up very little detail in a photograph. Tonight I progressed it along far enough to give it a quick blast of cream paint so it is a bit more photographable ...
I also added a screenshot to the lap top (I sense a caption competition)
The white box van got a blast with the cream to as it had never been painted before.
And finally one of the best things about building a new layout is learning the best angles for photographs so a couple of pics from different angles ... just for fun.
A well-meaning relative has bought me a Hornby Terrier in early BR guise. Unfortunately I model in N ('well, it's a train isn't it?' said the relative). However, I'm very grateful to her as I can now dip my toe in the water with OO.

I'm planning a small layout to experiment with, and fancy hooking up one or two coaches. Please could someone advise which of the Hornby SR or BR (S) coaches might be reasonably authentic for a branch line service in approx. the 1947 - 50 period?
Many thanks!

On Sunday I was talking to the man from Flangways on the subject of the Inspection Saloon.

He gave the reason fro the delay on the falling pound but was optimistic that it would be released in 2011.

What also came up was the tooling cost which was £58K. So just to cover the cost of the tooling he must sell apprx 1160 units at the price quoted.

On that basis every layout should have one or more in different liveries. I suspect that the intial release may be in different liveries to those mentioned before.

If at an exhibition you see flangways go and talk to him and give your support or we may not get the model which a lot of us would like

I have a bit of a problem in that I want a modern looking building but with very few buildings being available outside of engine sheds or "print yourself", I've made this:

http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt67/andelio/DSCF3996.jpg

The idea is simple - a 3 sided box with a lid, a window and set of glass doors. I've also added some supporting girders and some taller girders for a sloped roof that I'll be putting on top later this week.

Crownline Class B2 Conversion Kit

Hello everyone,

A good few years ago at the Doncaster MRE, I purchased a Crownline conversion kit to convert a Hornby B17 into a class B2. Unfortunately the instructions were missing from the kit and having looked at all the parts in the kit and comparing them to prototype photographs I still have no idea where to start. Its my own fault for buying the kit without instructions really. Up to now I've left this at the back of my workbench whilst I've got on with other projects, however I've got a Hornby B17 to spare now and I'd like to get this completed.

If anybody happens to have a copy of the instructions a scan would be most appreciated, or if anybody has done the conversion in the past any advice would be equally appreciated.

Many thanks,

Mispressed LP - Wrong artist! Value?

Hey guys, after extensive online searching, and emailing here and there, I have drawn a total blank!

What I have is a double album set of Queens Greatest Hits - vinyl albums.

Now, side four is not what it should be, instead, it is a side from Paul McCartney and Wings!

The album press/side numbers are - PMTV-12 A 5 1 1 - for side 3 Queen, and PMTV-21 b 3 1 1 - for side 4 - Paul McCartney. You can see how the mistake was made the 21 and 12 are the error.

Anyone know where to try to find out if it is worth anything. I would think it would be collectible for either Queen fans or McCartney.

Simple rule to this game, no sensible answers even if the first question has a hint of sense to it.
Stupid Answer - because they don't tumble dry.
Who ever provides the stupid answer shall also pose the next question. So to start the ball rolling.

Internet Explorer 8 & RMWeb

If this is in the wrong place, Mods please feel free to move it!

I was wondering, why is it that when I tried to navigate RMWeb via IE8 it took forever to load a page and every action resulted in a message to the effect that said page has been "recovered"? My start screen ended up full of notepad error messages after each session! This all seemed to start around the end of last year.
Since downloading Google Chrome I've used it to access the site and had no bother at all. At first I assumed it was just something to do with the recent RMWeb problems but it persisted.
RMWeb is the only site I've accessed which has had this problem BTW.

Anyone have any ideas?
