I had originally started this as a blog but don't really like the blogs if I am honest - They are too clunky to use and I dont read them anymore. So I have decided to restart the topic as a traditional thread. Appologies for the duplication in the initial few postings.

This thread follows progress on my layout, P4 New Street. Set during 1986/87 the model is to feature New Street Station and its southern approaches (Proof house Junction) Measuring somewhere in the region of 62ft by 20ft overall it will be one of 3 layouts built using our shared fiddleyard concept.
A few images of progress so far follow.

A view from the back of the layout. I admit that I love this angle and feel the effort of detailing (although not to the same standard as the front) the back of the walls was well worth the effort.

View from the front - this is what the public will see, the 'horse' really sets the date of the layout.

My scratchbuilt staff building. I drew up an etch for the lower floor doors and windows. A few shortcuts were taken on this building as it is over 3 feet from the front so I didn't need to go mad on the detail.

A view of Navigation street with a heavily modified Corgi Ford Cargo in 1980's WH Smiths livery. The road name was etched.

Its always nice when you get to the stage where you can take a step back and say 'thats done'! About 99% there with my staff building = just need to secure the upper and lower floors together - add a couple more drain pipes and I'm there. I must say I am very pleased with this one!

POPULAR
As requested by Steve, a few close ups. These are in pretty tight and please remember that the building will be over 3ft from the front of the layout and (mostly) behind walls!

I did the same as you, started with the blog and transferred all my stuff from the old forum, but then I noticed that more people had found the 'Layout topics' so I transferred it all over to here. I now use the blog to link to my latest post in the 'Layout topics'. The link (from the post number top right) will take anyone clicking on it more or less directly to the new post without having to scroll through acres of previous stuff.
And for those who are new to a topic they can still read it in chronological order.
Your endeavour rivals Pendon :-)

I agree with you on the blog v's thread argument. Give me the thread concept anyday.
Those buildings look freakin good. Are you bringing any of this stuff to Warley?

Really looking forward to seeing this at the Kernow show next year ! With the Plymouth show and the Falmouth MRC Three Spires show the two previous weekends, and the Hayle MRC show the weekend after, it's going to be a good month !

Anyway, great to see this back as it was one of my favourite WB threads to follow. Superb dedication to the original.

Alex - I am not going to Warley this year - next outings are Scalefour North for the plank + 'interesting things' and the Kernow Show with New Street as a demo.
Made a bit more progress on the trackwork for the London end station throat. There's nothing particularly funky at this end but the fact that nothing at all is straight makes it a bit interesting.

The complicated stuff on this board is done - just a couple of catchpoints to finish and plain track now.

Thats this thread up to date with the blog.

Fantastic stuff - a mad level of detail - you are way too modest.
If I could model have as good as this _ I would be quite happy to tell people...
"just stand 6 feet away" it will look great!
Thanks for sharing - Easy to follow now

I have enjoyed following this layout on its various threads and cant wait to see it in the flesh. I hope one day it comes Up North!! I could carry on with praise and superlatives but its all been said, and well deserved too.
Just gotta say, that the crew building looks like a picture of the prototype that you have photoshopped the background out of!!

I have a couple of invites for 'up north' already and the layout is decades away from completion yet!

When I built the plank I needed representations of the Westinghouse EP point machine and heater. With nothing available I knocked them up from scratch but while I needed 2 I built 3. The third one, by a roundabout route found its way to George from S-Kits. Today a parcel arrived back from George with his version of what I sent him. To say I am well pleased with what he has produced would be an understatement!

That looks like a truly excellent reproduction of the New St style of EP machine, must dig out my pics and duly compare but it looks like a really good job of a complex piece of kit.
