Andy Y
Bachmann aim to beat recession blues in 2011 Bachmann Europe Plc today announced its plans for 2011 at the annual trade event the Model & Hobby Show held in Coventry. Despite the recession, Bachmann have announced an exciting programme of releases. The Bachmann Branchline range of OO scale models will see the release of two new steam locomotives of the South Eastern & Chatham C Class 0-6-0 and the GWR Dukedog 4-4-0. To complement the successful third rail electric multiple units will be a Class 419 Motor Luggage Van (MLV). The previously announced 10000/10001 and Blue Pullman also appear in the catalogue for the first time. New OO coaches include LMS ‘Porthole’ 60ft stock and a Mark 1 Sleeping Car. The previously produced limited edition TPO vehicles now become standard catalogue releases. New wagons include a Southern Railway ‘Pill Box’ brake van, a Polybulk bogie grain wagon and a COVHOP wagon. Three LNER locomotives (A4, B1 and V2 Classes) will be upgraded to accommodate DCC sockets for the first time as part of an on-going programme, that last year saw the Collett 2251 Class and 3F Jinty locomotives receive the same treatment. In N scale a further nine new locomotives will be added to the range. These include the LNER A1 Class, Class 411 4Cep EMU, Class 350 EMU, WD 2-8-0, an original build Class 08, LNER J39 0-6-0, Midland Pullman, BR Standard 5MT 4-6-0 and a totally retooled Class 20. Additionally the previously announced Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 will also appear during the year. The recently introduced range of new tooling Mark 1 coaches will see further vehicle types added including BCK, FK, RFO, RMB, BG and GUV. New wagon types include a 10T meat van, SR ‘Pill Box’ brake van, LNER high sided open wagons, LNER vans, JJA auto-ballaster, PCA cement, Presflo cement, FNA nuclear flask and SPA coil carriers. These models will be released over the next 18 months. Graham Hubbard, Managing Director of Bachmann Europe Plc said today “we are excited by the 2011 announcements and feel sure that they will be welcomed by many railway modellers. They represent the confidence that our owners Kader have in our ability to deliver during the current economic downturn. It would have been very easy for us to sit back and do very little this year but those who know us will appreciate that is not the way we do things here at Bachmann Europeâ€. Earldom for a Dukedog Bachmann Branchline are to release a model of the Great Western 3200 or Earl Class locomotive which are better known as ‘Dukedogs’. They were built or rather rebuilt using the frames of former Bulldog Class locomotives and the boilers from the Duke Class, hence the adoption of the nickname. These were particularly useful on the former Cambrian Railways routes in Wales as they had a yellow route classification, enabling them to be used on many lines that could not accommodate heavier types. The Class numbered 30 in total (although one was different from the other types) and the first examples were named after Earl’s. The Earl’s were not particularly happy with their names being associated with the Class and demanded that they were allocated to something more prestigious. The names were transferred to new Castle Class 4-6-0s and removed from the older looking engines. Three versions will be available initially as 9017 in BR black livery with early emblem (31-086), 9022 in BR weathered black livery with early emblem (31-085) and 3203 in GWR green livery (31-087DC). The recommended retail price is £133.95 for 31-085, £127.55 for 31-086 and £144.60 for 31-087 with DCC ON BOARD. C Class makes the grade Bachmann Branchline today announced plans to produce an OO scale model of the South Eastern & Chatham Railway C Class 0-6-0 locomotive. These locomotives were introduced in 1900 and ran until withdrawal of the last of the Class in 1966. A total of 109 were built between 1900 and 1908 and one, No. 592, is preserved on the Bluebell Railway. Three versions will be available initially as 592 in South Eastern & Chatham Railway livery (31-460), 1256 in Southern Railway livery (31-461) and 31086 in BR black livery with early emblem (31-462). Recommended retail price is £85.05 for all versions. No baggage with this MLV The Class 419 Motor Luggage Van is a welcome addition to the growing range of OO scale Bachmann Branchline third rail electric multiple units. These MLV’s worked on the boat trains to Dover and Folkestone Harbour with 4Cep units (Class 411) and will complement the existing Bachmann models. Once off the third rail system they were able to use the on board batteries to move forward alongside the ship at the port to unload passenger luggage before rejoining the train for the journey back to London. Ten of these were built at Eastleigh between 1959 and 1961 and they lasted until the Channel Tunnel rendered them redundant. There was no corridor connection, so the Drivers when changing ends had to climb in and out of adjacent cabs. Three versions will be available initially in BR green livery (31-265), BR green livery with yellow panel (31-266) and in BR blue /grey livery (31-267) Recommended retail price is £76.95 (powered vehicle). Coaches and Wagons keep on rolling Bachmann Branchline have also announced a healthy line up of OO scale coaches and wagons for release over the next 18 months. The extensive range of British Railways Mark 1 coaches will be complemented by a Sleeping Car (SLSTP and SLF). This is a much requested vehicle and is sure to prove popular. These will appear in both BR maroon and blue/grey liveries. Recommended retail price will be £26.75. Also appearing for the first time will be LMS ‘Porthole’ 60ft coaches. Corridor 1st, Corridor Third, Corridor Composite, Open Vestibule, Brake 1st and Brake 3rd versions will be produced. These will appear initially in BR crimson / cream livery*. Recommended retail price will be £28.60. The Mark 1 Travelling Post Office vehicles will also appear in the main catalogue for the first time. Recommended retail price will be £36.25. LNER locomotives get DCC chassis upgrades Bachmann Branchline announced today that three of the popular OO scale LNER locomotives produced by the company are to get new chassis complete with DCC sockets as part of the on-going programme to provide 100% DCC compatibility across the range. The popular A4, B1 and V2 locomotives will have a new chassis engineered complete with DCC socket, thus eliminating the split chassis type currently used on these three models. The existing body shells will be retained. In 2010 the LMS 3F Jinty 0-6-0T and GWR Collett 2251 Class 0-6-0 locomotives were fitted with DCC provision for the first time. Bachmann Europe Plc Managing Director, Graham Hubbard said today “we are gradually moving towards 100% total DCC compatibility and this year will see the process extended to cover three popular LNER types for future releases. We understand that customers demand this facility now and we have an on-going process to convert the remaining locomotives over the next few years. We now have some 75% of the OO Branchline range DCC compliant and we have come a very long way since we introduced DCC options to British modellers back in 2005. Please be patient with us as we complete this task over the next few yearsâ€. Full 2011 Range The following are new items for 2011(some existing tooling with livery or running number changes). trisonic
Lord, Andy, You got up early for that listing? The new locos and EMU are tightly focused aren't they. Kudos for introducing two interesting "kettles" though....... Thanks, Pete. Billystanier
The C Class in pregrouping livery sounds very interesting. Something for the preservationist and pregrouping enthusiast. B1s going head to head with Hornby - another 75000 loss making carnage then?

RMweb Premium Pannier Tank Posted March 6, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 6, 2011 32-232 Fowler Class 3F 0-6-0 (Jinty) 47500 BR Black Late Crest That's got to have been Dennis Lovett's (Bachmann) personal choice as she was a Bletchley Engine until withdrawn in 1965. I rode on this engine (and 47521) many times whilst on Station Pilot Duties at Bletchley Station circa '62 to '65. Guess I best place an order
RMweb Premium ullypug Posted March 6, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 6, 2011 Looking forward to having a couple of Polybulks! Hopefully they'll be the clay carrying sort.
cromptonnut
Just had that sent via the Kernow mailing list. The MLV is an interesting choice and quite probably on my "must buy" list if it comes out in blue/grey; could well get some 'polybulks' as that would open up some interesting small rail-served industrial layout ideas, but otherwise it looks a fairly wallet-friendly list. Look forward to seeing the pictures in due course.
Guest dilbert
This looks like (one of ) the best new release programme that Bachmann has issued - there cannot be from a 4mm perspective many people who are disappointed. It is an interesting balance and given the current overall economical climate, the number and variety of new Blue Riband wagons releases is excellent news. - this wagon range has and will continue to give Bachmann a solid foundation. The Dukedog makes a welcome appearance - the GW version is obviously aimed at GW modellers in order to get them out of their DC world , or either as a booster to selling blanking plugs... dilbert

davidw
Looks like a really nice line up. Pity the V2's not got a retooled body. And Mk1 sleepers and TPO's. Pity the Thompsons look like the old models not an upgrade Thanks for Posting

wiggoforgold
I'm resigned to the fact that no one's making a J15. Releived they're not doing a K1 though.

Wolf27
Great news about mk1 sleepers, postals and polybulks. Been waiting for these for a dogs age. Not sure what Replica will make of the MLV though. I wouldn't be to happy but it makes sense for Bachmann to produce it. cheers Shane

Mark Dickerson
Personally pleased by the LT pannier, and the Earl has the Wow factor. I was surprised the 0-6-0 didn't turn out to be LNER, but it's a good set of releases for smaller plank fans (continued lack of an industrial excepted). It's great to see more BR suburbans and the LMS Porthole stock, and I'm surprised more wasn't made of the latter in the announcement. It may be things are handled differently, but it seems a lot less muted an announcement than the US 2011 range (mainly reliveries?)
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted March 6, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 6, 2011 I guess any time period on the Kernow LT pannier and Modelzone blue 108 limited editions have expired. Not surprised to see the 108 in blue - long overdue I guess. Very pleased to see the Wainwright and Dukedog - well done to Bachmann there!
