SOME GOODIES ARRIVE

No it was not Bill Oddy and friends.

I have now got the Deeley chimney and smokebox door from Dragon models, so the 3130 is go again.

I also ordered from Dragon a 12 ton low machinery truck, just for me. It is the old Majestic one but for under £30 I feel it is great value. It might be on the bench in a day or two. I have not built anything from new lately.

From elswhere I got two Antex irons a 40watt and 80watt, both rated at 115 volts. So this will hopefully mean less transformers and adapters. Just need to add our new style plugs and we will be cooking.

There are some more parts on the way, and my Mum has is sorting out 3 or 4, 2 kilo packets to post to me. In here is a new kit and a part built Collett 0-6-0 for me to play with. But going by general postage speed it will be August before they arrive.

I would be very handy indeed to hear how you get on with the two Antex soldering irons.

I've be pondering changing over to them for a while. My Weller 40watt goes through bits very quickly, no matter how well I look after them.

I will gladly let you know how I get on.

I think I will try the 40 out on the well wagon, if I can still use an iron. 99% of my soldering is done with the RSU.

Thank you muchly. :)

I don't have any experience of using an RSU. Presumably they're pretty handy if you use yours so much?

Mine is an old homemade thingy. I keep promising myself a proper one. I like it because it is cold when not in use, less burnt elbows from leaning on it, no hot files that have been laid over it or melted packaging. I also found it safer when the kids were younger, did not burn themselves picking it up thinking it was a screwdriver. I like it as you can do any joint, I find I have less solder everywhere. They come into their own when attaching overlays and small details. Just have to make sure the setting is right as you can melt brass castings. Then you can add white metal if you are carefull. I have never felt the urge to try whitemetal to whitemetal with it though.
