I made the number plates and applied the transfers as number 1282. The number plates are kits that I get from Martin Finney. I like these as you are not limited to certain numbers, and there seems to be little waste in the way of numbers as to you can get extra plates.

So far all is fine. Well no but it would be if I could get a new compressor. No chance of spraying the satin varnish. Get a new can of humbrol out of the cupboard and see if I can brush paint to any standard. Unfortunatly it is not like the UK with a B&Q around every corner. But I have found a model shop, thats good I hear you say, for here it is. Also only 3 1/2 hours away. by plane. But fortune smiles sometimes, looks like we are off to Sao Paulo for a week as of Friday so I might be lucky and back in business soon.

The result of painting by brush can be seen below. Not good enough brush marks as can be seen.

As for now this will have to be shunted into it's engine shed for now, I will get it out as soon as I get some compressed air. So close but the fat lady ain't singing yet!!!!!!

Thanks for the tip about the Finney number plates. Didn't know they were available seperately, that does sound like a useful approach.

Must be frustrating that you can't get to a model shop. On the other hand, if they had B&Qs in the Amazon now the world would be moving a little too fast for me to follow :-) But that's easy for me to say!

I found the numberplates while looking for something else. They are fiddly to do this one I superglued, only because it takes about 1/2 an hour to get the soldering kit out. I was pleasently suprised how it went.

You can get a lot of things here but itis knowing where. lots of bits and bobs are sold from houses so it is down to knowing who to ask when you start a search. I can't ask my wife's family, who all live here are lawyers and accountants and know little of the engineering modelling world.

Those Finney plates are great. The first time I used them I soldered each digit on individually and it was not an easy task to keep them all lined up (maybe easier with 7mm plates). Then, someone suggested using a drop of gloss varnish to fix them...

I had not thought of that one. I have stuckm number plates on with varnish. As for soldering I always use my RSU on a very low setting.

There are one or two advantages of living here, but being a model maker is not one. I think I will have to do a workshop post when I have 1/2 an hour.
