Well the time has come to start a new chapter.

Here is where we start. I bought an Ivatt 2MT partly built, but built very badly. I have tidied up the cab, and the boiler and footplate is now straight and square. I thought I had got the chassis in a runable condition. I have now decided to make the cylinders removable, and to follow a suggestion on here to compensate the chassis on the front two drivers, I will leave the rear fixed as I can just about get the motor into the firebox from there. So there is now some more to be dismantled. A little bit of working out to do for the compensation beam.

I have pickled the whole thing to try and get it clean enough for the work to begin. I will be starting with the loco chassis, as this will need the most work. But will also try and finish the tender so that they can be check together.

There is not very much more to do with the tender, mostly tidying up an a very few bits to be soldered on. At least with this loco I can have a go with my new haff bow pen. I had a play wit thisawhile ago and it seemed superb.

Here are a few photos just to show the state of play so far.

Also does any one have information about the rocking grate mechanism between the rear drivers on the drivers side. The instruction say there is a casting but it is missing from my parts. I want to scratch build it, the photos I have are not clear enough to see it.

From your past track record, this doesn't look as if it will take you long to do. There's something very satisfying about restoring abandoned model, I think. Will be interested to see how you get on with the bow pen.

Mikkel,

I hope it will not be to long in the making, I still have some dismantaling to do. I have made a start getting the cast valve gear to look someting other than rough. One coupling rodd needs to be sort out at the pivot.

Matthew,

I am hoping that too. I need to get my head into gear and get building instead of taking to bits. As I find this to be a little depressing.
