A Non-Brit's Attempt at ModellingWales

Entries in this blog

Oh Happy Day....

"Frogemere" was originally conceived as a small free-standing layout featuring Welshpool & Llanfair stock and scenery. It was to be constructed so that it could be set up and run in our sunroom, then taken down and stored on it's end in a corner of the same room.   My significant other today informed me that she did not wish this to occur, offering instead an area of our downstairs for my purpose. Doing my best to feign disappointment, I accepted her offer, and have now taken at least men

Full Speed Ahead...So to Speak

Hello Again,   I debated whether to post again so soon, but much has happened in the brief interlude since the last entry.   Firstly, the most important part. My wife is fine, her eye injury neither serious nor projected to be long-lasting. She does, however, look like she has gone 12 rounds with someone of the renown of Jerry Quarry--and lost.   On to other things:   Received the Langley body kit for "Sir Drefaldwyn". Very fine, clean white metal pieces, practically devoid of "flash"

Two Steps Forward...Two Steps Back

Hello Again,   Since last we spoke, the Scalescenes Narrow Boats pages have been downloaded and laser-printed. Having read more in these forums, I acquired enough 8 1/2 X 11 (approx. A4 size) self-stick label material for a reprint on inkjet--also enough ink for the Canon Pixma to last through the job, some spray matte acryllic, and assorted glue, knives and blades.   The final ingredient ? Card--1mm and 2mm. None to be had in the local office supply, school supply, art supply or big box st

Modelling Frogemere

Hello,   Today's will be a fairly brief descriptive entry, since I still don't have anything to actually "show".   GWR 57XX Panier has been successfully purchased and should leave Normanton, West Yorkshire tomorrow. Several Scalescenes kits have been acquired and downloaded (will be working on one later this evening).   Took lunch in the office today and doodled on a possible track plan, using "Wood End" as an inspiration. I'm pleased so far and am intent on creating a scale drawing which

Sitting on G..., Waiting for O.....

Hello--Had hoped to be in receipt of more tangible items today, but that was not to be. What was received or obtained today:   --A nice note from Parkside Dundas identifying the specific chassis needed for an interesting body kit. Saved me the cost of the kit, since the chassis is near unobtainable.   --A nice note from Gaugemaster indicating my order had been despatched. (I don't think I earlier mentioned my order from Langley, still in transit. Originally thought I had the correct chassi

Welshpool in the Mailbox

Just a brief followup to the earlier entry---   The first item arrived. A lovely reprint map taken from the Ordnance Survey topographic series (as revised in 1904 and updated in 1912), showing the area in and around Welshpool. Of most interest to me is the information I can glean about the "town route" of the Welshpool and Llanfair eastward from the present W&L station to the Raven Square Station.   Although I do not anticipate modelling (or having room to model) the entire now nonexist

What Have I Gotten Myself Into ?---

It's late Monday afternoon here in the eastern US and I'm wondering what, if anything , the postman will have brought that carries a British postmark. After pursuing modelling various US prototypes over the past 50+ years, I've taken the plunge into OO gauge, and am awaiting the start of a veritable deluge of materials, both OO and OO9 in nature.   Even the beginning of this journey has not been without both worry and wonder. For example--   My kind credit card issuer suspended my ability t
