Was it a waste of time ?

Just spent 1½hrs working on this fence. The posts were put in a few days back. Tonight I added the wires.

You can just make out the wire. I used fishing line for this as it worked out pretty much to scale. Thing is, from normal viewing distance it cannot be seen, hence this topics title. I will persevere though, or at least until I run out of fence-posts.

Not a waste of time. When I did mine though I found it easier to thread the posts when they were not planted.

Hi JZ,

In my aircraft modelling days aerial wires made from fishing wire could be coloured with a permanent marker or a fine wash of paint.

Fencing looks good though-most impressed and certainly not a waste of time! What or whose posts are they by the way?

No Julian, by no means a waste of time! The wires are visible - and anyway, even if no-one ever visits, you know they're there! A box ticked on the to-do list is always time well-spent!

Personally I like it.

46444 hit it on the head with adding a bit of colour to the wire....but not to much.

I would think that greys and browns.....browns to represent a bit of rust.

Thanks for all your comments. i will be pressing on. Tomorrow is a rest day, so I will do the next section.

46444, the fence posts are my own. I made up a couple of hundred when I was at my old firm. They are 1.6mm fibreglass, etched-off PCB, and CNC drilled and routed. I do wish I had either made more, or at least, not given so many away.

Hi JZ,

Thanks for the info. As fence posts go I thought they looked really good and to scale appearence. Shame you've not got shedloads left-I'd have some off you!!

Be good to see more of the layout as well.

Cheers.

Yes a lot easier to thread before planting, found that out the hard way lol.I left wire over long then tensioned it once posts fixed into position.

I used beading wire which i touched up with paint once tensioned.

Yours looking good though :O)

I have used fishing line before and found no problems as it needs little tension. FYI, it is 1.25lb line. I use a fine needle for the threading and loop the line over the post a couple of times at the end when threaded and put a dob of superglue before cutting.
