Another spot of gardening!
Now that the backscene is more or less complete I thought I'd position the flower beds onto the platform surface. Obviously tools are required when a bit of gardening is in the offing, fortunately in my bits box i had the following etch from Severn Models :-)
Once assembled using 188 solder paste I had the necessary equipment to enable a start to be made on the gardening project!
Before the beds were fixed in position I installed some fencing at the back of the platform, along with some gates at the side of the station building. The flowerbeds were then fixed in position using PVA adhesive and allowed to dry. I then added edging stones around the beds, once again held in place with more PVA.
I decided that a lamp hut would be appropriate behind the fence so I had a look through my books for a suitable prototype to model. In Paul Karau's Great Western Branch Line Termimi there's a plan and a few pictures of the lamp hut at Lambourn which looked to be suitable, so I cobbled one together using Slaters Plastikard corrugated sheeting.
While routing through my bits box I found a white metal horse drinking trough left over from my 4mm modelling days. I thought it might make a rather good 7mm scale stone trough for putting plants in:-) As I wanted a few of these on the platform I took a mould from it and poured some up in plastic resin. Once painted I added some static grass plants using the same methods discussed in a previous blog entry. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/1131/entry-18181-7mm-gardening/
I'd previously made up some platform benches and porters trolleys from Southwark models kits so once painted these were also positioned on the platform. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/1131/entry-17632-diamond-embossed-edging-stones-platform-paraphernalia/
The buildings are at present only resting on the platform surface and need bedding down properly, but as I'm considering fitting interior detail into some of the rooms that's how they will remain for the time being. The main waiting room interior is fairly visible through the large windows so I think I need to do something about that if nothing else!
I still need to get hold of some platform lamps and make the station name boards, but at least the platform doesn't look as bare as it did before!
I'll finish with a few views of the layout to date, until next time ......
Best wishes
Dave
