Lower Queens Road 2

Evening

Have been building the end terrace for Lower Queens Road (the house was purchased by the railway when the line extended to Portishead in 1911). It's taken a long time to get this far as I decided (foolishly it turned out) to cut and place each quoin stone by hand. It's all plasticard and strip of varying thickness and section. The lighting rig will be up against the houses hence my only modelling the front inch of them.

The infill stonework was going to be Wills Course stone but I've decided it will be inlaid with DAS and then scribed when dry. A bit of a faff, but there isn't any commercial proprietary product I know of that captures Somerset limestone. The crossing gate (if you can call it that) has also been made. I don't know why it was extended as shown but that's how it appears in the photos.

Have also planted a bit more grass, though I think it will need a top coat of straw.

And made a start on the signal cabin shed.

Oh and taken some other photos too.

I'm not too far away from finishing this board now. The end is definitely in sight.

That's starting to come together really nicely Andrew. Was there anything to the left of the gate or did it really stop short?

The gate closed across the line between the two posts. As far as I can tell (and I'm happy to be corrected), photos I have show the gate stopping in the middle of the road (I presume there was a shoot bolt). There is some additional fencing to go around the railway on the left hand (Portishead) side, but I haven't worked out the final details and whether it's front or back of kerb line. It probably won't look quite so odd when it's finished!

Looking really good! I know what you mean about placing individual quoins, tedious but you forget the pain once you've finished!

That's what I think happened. A bit like at the triangle a couple of hundred yards towards Portishead. Trains weren't exactly frequent.

The road over the railway only gave access to Clevedon GWR goods yard.
