Station Road - part 5

Job's Modelling

I have finally finished my diorama of Station Road
I have added a Reliant van. The van got some weathering for a better appearance. I used paint from several model paint suppliers.

This time I uploaded a picture of the diorama with the visual underground. Then I saw that a piece of brickwork of a chimney was lose. I repaired that immediately.
I also took a picture of the diorama with my British Railway delivery van. I will use these pictures for my delivery story of Arthur Page.

Because this diorama is for my grand daughter it becomes a different finish. With a friend of mine, who is a picture frame maker, we made a wooden frame for the diorama. It will also have a glass cover. I made the picture without that.

I hope you like the result.

Kind regards,
Job

Lovely modelling Job. Your work is so atmospheric and evocative of 1950s Britain!

Hi Job, good to see it finished. One of the things I like about your dioramas is how they show ordinary everyday scenes, and yet there are many stories hidden within them when you look closer. Just like real life. Little Margaret and the rabbits for example. And the signs and lettering, which add a lot to the atmosphere. Emily Robbins is one of your most characterful shop fronts yet, I think.

I wonder where Arthur is off to next :-)

I agree about the sign.

Arthur will leave Northall for his next deliveries. There ars some nice villages around Northall, which are served by British Railways.

Villages! That sounds nice. And maybe some inhabitants who like the Edwardian style! :-)

Lovely work, very atmospheric and tells so many stories. Only one small pedantic question: The position of the chimneys seems to suggest the fireplaces near the middle of the room rather than against the party wall where they would normally be?

I used a reference picture for the shops. On the picture the chimney's where placed in this position. Because it was a 1959 picture I can not explain the reason for this.

That's what I love about modelmaking. It really makes you look and sometimes throws up things like that you don't expect. I'm currently modelling a row of 1820s houses and a pub in Bermondsey and discovering all sorts of architectural oddities.

Lovely modelling, thanks for sharing!
