A Royal Build - Airfix 1/35th Scale Austin K2/Y Ambulance (in remembrance of the HM the Queen)

So it's been a while (seems like a heart attack and surviving a stroke - was so last year) since I've written a Blog Entry(re-uploading the photo's isn't fun).   Long story short, I got this kit on a whim, as I'd seen a few Positive reviews of it on YouTube and I wanted an Airfix Beer Glass!     I noticed, well it was pointed out to me that one of the decal options was Her Majesty the Queen's:     And then it sat on the shelf in the workshop for

A Forgotten Fighter - Westland Whirlwind

Something a bit different a heavy fighter from the early years of WW2 - fantastic concept, let down with crap engines, if only they'd fitted it with Merlin's. Over a year in the making (though technically only took a week to build).   Box Art     Instructions & Colour Call out.     What's in the Box.             The Build part 1..       It

Son of Seafire - Supermarine Seafang F.32

Something a bit different, the Seafang, the planned replacement for the Seafire - which due to the Jet Age, became an interim (and mostly) forgotten foot note in British Naval aviation history.   Then Trumpeter created a kit of it (along with the Spiteful).   I've had it my stash for a while and I wanted a quick build..   Box Art     What's in the box..         The decals came back to haunt me.

Das Boot - U-9, a WW1 U-Boat Build Part 1

In between, many, many commissions I've been build this beast of a kit and unlike a certain Revell Corvette, it doesn't need wrestling in to submission!   It's not a huge part count, but is exquisite in it's detail.   Box Art     Very Matchbox in the box art.   Instructions, etc.           The Sprues (only 4)           The Build

A Very Large Build - HMCS Snowberry Part.5

14 Months Later..   In what will hopefully be the penultimate part of HMCS Snowberry's build and in the new 'Works', I make substantial progress on the Very Big Build..   First order of business was to figure out where I'd got to in the instructions and give Snowberry a dust down.   Fortunately that was the bridge..         With the bridge being put in place, I could get the rigging done - EZ Line from now on.

Another Wooden Wonder - Timber Tracks GWR 4 Road Engine Shed Conversion - Part. 4

Be careful what you wish for @gwrrob😉   So after 18 months or so on (& off the bench), the Engine Shed is finished and currently en-route (as I type) to it's final home temporally - as it's got to go to the layout builders in Taunton next week.    Anyhow on with the final part and where I left off - the roof or tiling nightmare as I like to call it (to be fair Bramley was quite poorly at the time - so I was not quite with it).

Another Wooden Wonder - Timber Tracks GWR 4 Road Engine Shed Conversion - Part. 3

Now where was I with this build..   Oh yes now I remember, I was test fitting the roof panels..   With them test fitted & trimmed where needed, I painted the interior surfaces (off white), fitted the roof sky lights, chimneys and made up the clerestory sections.           Next up, I added some exterior trim and installed the interior lighting.         Before I installed the exterior lamps, I decide

An Armour or Railway Build? KARL-Gerat 040/041 on Railway Transporter

Is it Armour, is it Railway or both - all I know is it's big for 1/72nd.   Brief history of the model, it was first released by Hobby Boss in 2007, the Railway Transporter was released in 2008 (without the KARL), this version was released last year, so it's two models in one.   Box-Art     Instructions & Colour Call Out.       The KARL (you have the option of modelling either 040 or 041)

Shack Attack - Another Big Build: Part 4 - Revenge of the Shack, Chapter 5

As hinted at in part 4, the decals were going so well and then it came to the wings and silvering appeared everywhere!    After several days work and a lot of X-20A Thinners, I got rid of most of it.             And finally the wings were glued in place and that's the way she sat for the next 5 weeks till work resumed..     Yep the dark dirt wash is back..     Props assembled and

Yet Another Armour Build: Tamiya 1/48th Scale Russian SU122 Tank Killer

It's another shake and bake Armour kit from Tamiya and no it wasn't going to be green..   Box Art:     Instruction's and chosen scheme (Winter Camo) - on the box, not in the instructions.       What's in the box.             The build, paint and weathering - she went together extremely quickly (no surprise there)

Another Wooden Wonder - Timber Tracks GWR 4 Road Engine Shed Conversion - Part. 2

So it's been over 6 months since an update on this big build, but now there's been some work on it. Some of these photo's have appeared on my thread..   With the Peco Bull-head track cut into lengths it was time to make up the base for the shed, I went for a magnetic attachment using 3mm rare earth magnets (I only needed ten sets).               With the base plate made it was time for some surgery on the engine shed

Shack Attack - Another Big Build: Part 4 - Revenge of the Shack, Chapter 4

Okay, so were was I on the Shackleton build..   Oh yes, I was busy getting parts ready for paint - including masks..     Replacing the plastic aerials under the wings with something sturdier..     Wings back from primer..     Some painting done..     Main undercarriage bays spray Insignia White & masked.     Wings sprayed and temporarily installed..     Mask

Another Armour Build: Tamiya 1/48th Russian Heavy Tank JS-2

Time for another piece of Armour - this time it's Russian (albeit in Polish Markings)...   The Box Art     Decals & Colour/Markings Call out (it's green lol)       The Sprues (or Frames), etc.               The build - fairly straightforward - it's Tamiya after all             Lower hull and tracks pai

Yet Another Armour Build - Tamiya 1/48th Scale M26 (T26E3) Pershing

Yep another Tank build - this time it's Tamiya's M26 Pershing from 2005..   Box Art   Ye   Instructions and colour call out - yes it's green         I chose to do option C which technically is T26E3 and not a M26 Pershing.   Decals, metal & rubber bits..     The Sprues..             The Build - very straightforward.

An Enormous Naval Build - HMS Nelson - What's in the box.

Having thoroughly enjoyed build HMS Buttercup, I decided to get something much larger...     A few stats.. Length: 1082.5 mm, Beam: 160 mm, Parts: 1260+   As a wise precaution I invested in a reference book. Lot's of nice scale drawings and details     What's in the box, well for starters - more boxes!     The instruction booklet and colour call out.       In the white box is the beautifully

Shack Attack - Another Big Build: Part 3 - Revenge of the Shack, Chapter 3

Going to keep these update blogs quite short - unlike the Shack which is huge.. (I'd forgotten that).   The Aftermarket arrived from Hannants.     With the fuselage fully cured, I gave the joint lines a initial clean up & added some more of the glazing, plus test fitted the tail.     I turned my attention to the underside and fitted the bomb bay door's etc.     Time to work on the wings and all 6 of the engines..

Shack Attack - Another Big Build: Part 2 - Revenge of the Shack, Chapter 2

Finally after what seems like an age, I'm making a start on Revell's take on the Shackleton - though in this case it's the MR.3 (Phase 3 version).   Which means for those not in the know - Nose wheel rather than a tail dragger, wing tip tanks and in the case of the Phase 3: 6 engines...   Forget following the instructions, each side of the fuselage is made from 2 parts - I decided to glue the two parts of each side together and using the bomb bay roof & wing spar section

My Matchbox Nemesis build - Fairey Seafox

Everyone has that one kit that thwarts them - Matchbox's Fairey Seafox was mine.   Previous attempts 30 odd years ago ended in failure, but not this time..   The Kit, not much to it, but aftermarket decals were required..           The build, straightforward - but I replaced a couple of parts with copper wire, to add strength.       Airbrushed some silver, where it would be difficult to do once co

A Slightly Smaller Naval Build: HMS Buttercup - Part 2

So here's the second past of the build - I'm not going to over narrate the build as it follows the instructions..           Yes that is the Attacker lurking..       Aft deck complete..             A Midships on the way to completion...       A Midships complete!   Working forward..

A Bomber Build: Lockheed Ventura Mk.II (RAF)

So another build, this time it's the Revell (USA) Lockheed Ventura Mk.II (RAF).   The Box-Art, Sprues, etc.                         The build.             The basic structure went together extremely well indeed.   After a month or so sitting in the box, it was brought back out to try and f

A Latin American Build - North American F/P-51D Mustang Uruguayan Air Force

So time for another new Tool Airfix kit, I'm taking part in a Latin American Group Build on another forum and I chose to do a Mustang in postwar service with the Uruguayan Air Force.   Anyhow here's the Box Art, Instructions, decals, sprues/frames & aftermarket.                 Building up the cockpit & interior, now I chose to assemble the cockpit and fuselage interior in one go and then pai
