Buckden Station 1978

Here are some pictures of Buckden Station near Brampton, Cambridgeshire in 1978. At the time the station was in use as a private house. The signal box, still in its Eastern Region colours, appeared to have been used as a greenhouse.

First a general view from the back.

A view of the access steps. The box was platform mounted

The water tank at the back was a nice feature

2. The weighbridge

Thanks this is really useful! Especially the weighbridge office as that escaped many of the other photos I've seen of the site.

Is the station the building next to the dump site at the moment? I guess the Brampton - Buckden Road would have gone over a bridge? Or a level crossing?

Yes thats where it was, but nothing is left now.

It had a bridge, and most of the photos if the station are taken from the bridge - I therefore have no idea what the bridge looked like!

There's a picture of the bridge in the background of a pic taken at Buckden 1n 1952 in EH Sawford's "Cambridge-Kettering Line Steam". It looks like a plate girder - similar I suspect to the one that I think is still in situ near Grafham (or it was last time I was there which was a few years ago!) I think there's a picture of the Grafham bridge in one of the books 46444 mentions - I'm not sure which one - perhaps he can help.

My copy of Sawford arrived today so I was just about to correct myself! To me it looks a little more like the one that stood at Kimbolton than the one between Grafham and Brampton (which IS still there) from the pictures in V. Mitchell et al. "Branch Lines Around Huntingdon: Kettering to Cambridge"
