So I recently purchased a ViTrains V2088 Class 37 No.37416 in Royal Scotsman livery and a Bachmann 32-780V Class 37 No.37248 Loch Arkaig in a West Coast Railways livery, a Model Rail limited edition. Both have their good points and bad points. The Bachmann loco is heavier and more well detailed, but it appears to be a bit narrower than the ViTrains loco. Also the ViTrains cab windows look to be more the correct size to me. The Bachmann loco is also a few mm longer than the ViTrains one, as well
So my new class 72xx tank from Hirnby has arrived. Very impressed. A great slow runner after running in. I have made a few fixes. The smokebox dart has been removed and awaits the arrival of a replacement item from 247 developments. The footplate has been straightened and the body tightly screwed in, as it was loose when I opened the box. Will have to make a few mods to the packaging as the loco won't go back in now it has had the front steps added. Overall I'm very happy.
So here is the list of everything I plan on doing to Hornby's R3169 Olton Hall when it is released. Big list of things haha:
Replace moulded smoke is dart
Add 2 black lamps on front buffer beam
Add splasher lining
Replace plastic whistles with turned brass ones
Paint whistle shield black
Paint brass beading on front corners of cab
Add brass beading around cab windows
Replace the moulded handrail beneath cab windows and add upright one in front of windows too
Complete the cabside lin
Well I have made a start on the Kings cross end of the railway. I have managed to. Get my hands on 8 sections of Hornby's platform 9 3/4 arches, as released in the R8204 & R8240 station packs, and these have been glued together. Pics will follow. I'm planning on moulding another unit to double it's current length and then the construction of the baseboard for that module can begin.
So I have now completed the first 3 coach interiors. Brake 99723, compo 99716, and open 99317. The only remaining things I need for these three are students and the Hogwarts Crest Roundels for each side. If any knows of a BSK and an SK for sale that is not weathered, please let me know. I'm struggling to find these last 2.
Well I have just completed my first coach interior. Looks fab. Here's some pics to show the process:
1. Interior Decal Sheets
2. Painted interior moulding
3. Corridor carpets
4. Compartment seats and carpets
5. Compartment pictures
6. Vestibule wooden paneling
7. Reassembled interior view
Hi everyone. This is my first blog post on RMWeb. It's going to be showing progress on my model railway I'm building. I'm endeavouring to do a Hogwarts express themed layout. Main features will be Platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross, the Glenfinnan viaduct in a reduced length, and Hogsmeade station. These will be separate modules connected by track work depicting open countryside.
