While we were developing the recent Wickness Soundscape dcc sound projects we started to do some work on the computer control and wireless control aspects of the ECoS 50200 controller. As we explored this we found the possibilities to be literally boundless in relation to the technology and devices that most people already have in there own home with the use of an ECoS 50200 as supplied.

Essentially the ECoS is a computer which can be connected to your own home network, just connect it via network cable to your router and it is assigned an ip address on your home network. You can then install freely available VPN software on your computer or a VPN app on your mobile device ie phone or tablet computer to control the ECoS either wirelessly via phone or tablet or via desktop or laptop computer with your mouse.

By using the VPN software you are effectively mirroring the ECoS touch screen on your device. By doing this so you can walk around your layout with tablet in hand controlling all trains in any location without actually touching your ECoS controller.

In the video below you can see a Wickness Soundscape Class 67 loco which is being controlled simultaneously by the method described above via the ECoS 50200 itself(updated with current firmware), by a mobile phone, and by a computer.

This can be done with any ECoS as supplied, best to update the firmware of course, all you need is a network cable to connect it to your home wireless router. Wickness models will shortly be publishing documents on correct setup method within the Wickness Vault
