Initial electrical work and first trains running!

Pretty exciting events at Newcastle Central - trains are starting to run!

I ran the mains bus power and attached the first dropper wires which meant a large portion of the track became electrified and I could start to run a few trains up and down the main lines around the Tyne Yard.

The bus power is 12-gauge solid core and I'm planning on droppers on each section of track. Since I'm mainly using flex track, that shouldn't be too big of a deal, it's all the points that will slow me down. And that's not taking into account the point motors and and frogs. It's all DCC, so is fairly straightforward, is just going to be time consuming to get everything soldered up. I don't mind electrical work, I rather enjoy it to an extent. I may not feel the same way once I've spent hour after hour wiring all this, but at least it's not something I struggle with and dislike!

It will probably take a couple of weeks or so now to slowly get the rest of the layout wired up, and in the next week I should be ordering up all the Seeps PM-1 point motors to round it out. But, for now, I'm quite happy that I can finally start to run some trains , even if just on 15ft of track! See the video below on my YouTube channel on the initial electrical work going in to place and a few of the locos starting to run!
