Yet another project

Hello.

As if I need another project, I already have this...

...which I now have the bits to finish thanks to a shopping spree at Railex. I also have this...

....which I keep on adding brackets, rods, and cranks to. I now also have this...

...which is project number three on my workbench. I dont like multiple projects on the go at any one time but I have made an exception to the last one. Its been the 'holy grail' for me for a while now.

After seeing the 'bag-o-shame' of city parts at various stages it's nice to see it with a boiler! Is that 3D printed or scratch built?

Shhhh. I was hoping no-one was going to mention my bag-o-shame! Its only taken me 6 attempts to get this far and its still not finished.

The boiler is 3D printed (in FUD) which was kindly modeled for me by John Birkett-Smiths son. Its available on Shapeways along with his other 3D GWR bits.

I like the City!!  Coming along very nicely.

The Autocoach under frame looks like a work of art too ;-)

Wow - a VERY little City! I have seen this one on the the slow burn for a while from Missy at the various shows and to see it with the boiler on is really great! I love doing auto trailer under frames - lots of lovely fiddly bits...

Very nice as always!

All the best,

Thanks guys, there is still lots of work to do on it but then its taken me a couple of years to reach this point anyway so a bit longer wont hurt. I havent worked out how to drive the wheels etc yet, Im just cencentrating on the bits I can do right now.

Hi Julia, I know what you mean about multiple projects on the go at the same time - and about making exceptions to the rule :-)

A City for Highclere, well it doesn't get much better than that! I'll wait for it to be finished with patience but also much anticipation!

Well I couldnt not do City of Truro for Highclere really, its about as iconic a loco as you can get for the line. As Castle said, the engine is a 'slow burner' though, dont expect it to be finished in a week or twos time, I have the driving wheels currently being cast in Brass ready for stage two at the moment. I hope I can do the engine justice though...

Well if anyone can do it, it must be you.

There were so many great loco classes on the DNSR over the years, especially in the early years of course. I wrote up a list of all the classes I could find records/photos of once over on gwr.org.uk - including 157 and Queen class locos!

I don't remember if you have plans to run a mogul?

I am pretty sure the moguls (43xx?) were quite common on the line from what I have read. Named engines were quite rare though with the exception being City of Truro.

Right now I am just happy having anything to run on the layout so anything goes. The only real plans I have is to make a couple of 22xx Colletts as these seemed to be the 'bread and butter' on the line, and I would love to do Highclere Castle sometime.
