Hythe Parkway - Withdrawal of services & Demolition of Station

Hello guys,   Unfortunatly Hythe Parkway is no more, over the past few days I have been stripping the boards ready for scrap, it was quite upsetting, but it had to be done, for a couple of reasons: We had to clear out the garage ready for a refurbishment into a modelling room, so we thought it would be the time to scrap Hythe. We didn't have any other shows and Dad & I both thought HP was getting tired and showing it's age Currently I don't know for certain what I will be doing a

Hythe Parkway - Maidenhead Show Report

Hi,   Firstly, I'm sorry for such a long delay in writing this report, I have been concentrating to my A-level exams, which took place Thursday and Friday and I haven't really had time to write an entry for last weekend!   Anyway, to the show, luckily due a conbination of having a free lesson last thing on the Friday and being able to get the van home and ready to load earlier meant that Dad and I could get on with loading Hythe up so that we could make the hall opening at 16:00. I still ha

Hi,   Well, it is only a week anyway until our next exhibition: Saturday 7th January: Maidenhead, Marlow & District Model Railway society exhibition at Cox Green Community Centre It is the first show of the year in these parts and a nice little community show and helps you to get back into the spirit of modelling after the festive period and a chance to buy bits and bobs for the layout that you need to run that loco you got for christmas on!   As I write this, we are about to

Hythe Parkway - On Tour 2012!

Hi,   Blimey, long time, no updates, but this is basically because we haven't done anything!   Anyway, this is basically to inform people where you can see Hythe Parkway in 2012:   7th January 2012: Marlow, Maidenhead & District Exhibition at Cox Green Community Centre in Maidenhead   Looking forward to the show, probably no real new fleet members, apart from a couple of BP Green 45t TTA Tankers for fuel trip workings to Marsh Distribution. Come along and say hello!   Other than th

Hythe Parkway - Reading Show report

Hi,   Have returned home and unpacked from the R.S.M.E's Reading Show over the weekend, so can give you all a report on it!   A slight bad Omen came on Friday Afternoon, having got ready and stood at the bus stop for the 17:00 bus in to Wycombe to collect the Van, but come 17:15 it still hadn't come, so with fear of not being on time to collect it, we had to drive into town to fetch the van.   But we managed to do it and got up to the clubrooms of the HW&DMRS where Hythe has been set u

Hythe Parkway - On Tour!

Hi,   Long time since I did a post on Hythe, but it has rather taken a back seat over the past few months because of holidays and also work on my 2011 Challenge Layout, Roads A-C, as well as some other things   But, soon we realised that Hythe's next show is approaching:   17th and 18th September: RSME show - Southcote Primary School, Reading   Having had some trouble at the Abingdon show back in March with the wiring, we decided to re-make the control panel and re-wire the feeds to the

Hythe Parkway - Magazines again!

Hi,   Just a small update today, it's been a long time since I've updated this blog!   As some of you will be already aware, Hythe Parkway will be appearing in the latest issue of Model Rail, July 2011 (No. 158). I've already seen a copy and subscribers should be recieving their copies soon. The Issue will be formally on sale on 16th June. The Article was written and Photographs were taken before the extension was designed and buitl, so that explains the old board being featured. I would rea

Hythe Parkway - Post Abingdon

Hi,   Well, as some of you know, Hythe Parkway was out at the Abingdon Show yesterday.   We had packed up Hythe at the club on Friday evening and got it along to Abingdon, in convoy with Graham_muz and his Fisherton Sarum. Generally, setting up and testing went well, up until we tried to test the extension, but the problem was finally tracked down to myself, putting in some wires in the wrong way! But we left it running well and ready for the show ahead.   We got to the hall on Saturday

Hythe Parkway - Extension's Big Launch!

Hi,   Right it's the moment you've all been waiting for!   Hythe has been fully set up with the extension for the first time last night, unfortunatly we could test whether it worked or not because we forgot to but the plug on the main control panel! So today, we went back up and fitted a plug and tested everything and I'm very happy to report and that it all worked first time! We were expecting a lot of problems after we changed a lot of wiring to be able to have Platform 4 and the headshu

Hythe Parkway - Almost there!

Hi,   Right there has been an massive amount of work done on the extension!   Firstly, all the lights have been wired in, all the building have been stuck down and backscenes have been half done. Secoundly, after visiting the Watford Show and Alton Model Centre, we have detailed the layout up!   But, there's going to no photos of it until either Wednesday or Thursday because I'm taking the layout up to my clubs (High Wycombe and District Model Railway Society) clubrooms over the next coup

Hythe Parkway - It's Alive!

Hi,   There has been major progress on the extension for Hythe, we have movement!   There was a bit of troubleshooting to be done, mainly rewiring all the microswitchs which were the wrong way round! But we had our first movement about half an hour ago!   Other than that, there has been some other developments, we managed to get both the extension and station boards together and lay the track between them, unfortunatly I forgot to take pictures of the 2 boards together!   So instead I

Hythe Parkway - Signs and other stuff!

Hi,   There has been alot of progress on Hythe in the past couple of days (all though it may not seem it from the photos!). We managed to get the station board out of storage in the garage and do some work on Platform 3. We cut through the post platform at the end of P4 to get ready for track laying to connect the extension tomorrow.     Dad also cut back the platform a bit, because it was always was a bit tight. This meant that when I got home from school, he was attacking it with a chis

Hythe Parkway - A change of plan

Hi,   A very belated update on progress of the extension of Hythe.   Unfortunatly not a lot has been done since the last entry, due to the christmas period and myself going back to school, I have little time to get on with things. So this weekend, I decided to get a move on with it!   Luckily, with dad being retired I managed to get him to do a couple things last week. We had planned on a small fiddle yard at the back of the yard and disguise the entrance with a section cut from the worksh

Hythe Parkway - Roads and Walls

Hi,   Unfortunately my computer has been down for the past week, meaning I've been unable to access RMweb. But this has made me progress with the extension of Hythe (I should really come up with a name for it!).   Over the past week, I've started to build the wall that seperates the rail yard and the Road. This is made out of 5mm Foamboard clad in Slaters Brick Paper, this is in a attempt to try and make the board lighter.     Also, I have managed to paint the white road markings and la

Hythe Parkway - Cranes

Hi,   Much progress has been made with the extension for Hythe, following purchase of the crane I needed at Warley.   It is a Knightwing kit, but modified slightly to make it look like a container crane, I carried out the following modifications:   1.) Cut off one pair of legs so it will attach to the main building 2.) Add the cable runs from the jib to the legs. 3.) Made a new speader for carring containers.   Happily with 3 and a half days not doing anything, due to the weekend and s

Hythe Parkway - A couple of wagons + competition

Hi,   Just a small update today!   There's been a couple of new arrivals to the Hythe Parkway stock list, the first is a Bachmann JPA cement bogie wagon in Larfarge Cement livery, I actually brought this at the beginning of october as a birthday present for myself at the Illford show. The secound is a Dapol KTA Pocket Intermodel Wagon in clean Tiphook Rail livery, brought from Chelterham Models at Wycrail yesterday inbetween stewarding duties:     They're pictured on Bigporth.   Nothi

Hythe Parkway - Buildings, Road Markings and Signs!

Hi,   Long time, no update! Never fear, I have been working on the Extension of Hythe.   Since the last update, quite a few things have happened. Firstly the Hardstanding has been finished! Secoundly I brought the main building for the layout, I decided on a Pikestuff engine shed kit after my atempt at Scratching building warped very badly. 3 sides of it are finished and painted, the 4th side has had holes cut out of it, but I'm waiting on buying a Knightwing crane to finish it. Hopefully sh

Hythe Parkway - Extension Hard Standing

Hi,   Having layed down the base of the concrete hard standing on the Extension of Hythe last weekend, I have been working on it since!   I have been using Andy Y's method for inset track used on his Keyhaven Layout, it's a very good method and works well. I have made one slight alteration, in his Method, Andy uses 'Fabfoam' for in between the rails, but I have used lengths of self-adhesive Floormaster Solid Wood Underlay which is avaible in very large rolls from B&Q, I found it after i

Hythe Parkway - Extension Progress

Hi,   Been a while since I updated this, so here we go!   First off all the points are now working and all the microswitchs are attached, everything is wired into chocolate boxes, but it's not all connected together, this'll be done when the board is put up next to the platform board.   Next up is that I have started work on the concrete hard standing around the track work, I've been using Andy Y's method for inset trackwork and so far it's working   I'll put some photos up when there's

Hythe Parkway - In Railway Modeller

Hi,   Not much of a entry I'm afraid   As some of you may know Hythe Parkway is currently featured in the current issue (September 2010) of Railway Modeller. [plug mode on] It now on sale [plug mode off]   (In my best monty python voice) Now for something completely different!:   We have made 3 out of the 4 points to work, this is using a manual system instead of point motors.   This works by a dowel going from the point and the baseboard edge with a knob on the end with a wire going

Hythe Parkway - Being Published!

Hi,   Can't believe that is has been 3 months since I updated this blog!   To be honest, nothing has happened to Hythe or the extension, work will be done over the summer holidays!   In other good news, Hythe Parkway is to be published in the September Issue of Railway Modeller, see here:   http://www.pecopublications.co.uk/Railway-Modeller-September-2010.html   Comments Welcome   Simon

Hythe Parkway - Extension Track Laying Finished

Hi Guys,   Just spent the morning laying track on the extension to Hythe, it is now finished:   http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php/gallery/image/16796-new-board-003jpg/   The next thing to do is wiring it up and put in the point operating system (more to come on this)   I've also started work on the rail-served distribution centre. I'm making it out of 5mm foamboard. It has been covered in Platicard 'Cladding' and painted in Halfords grey Primer. I've finished the two important s

Hythe Parkway - Extenstion, New Plan!

Hi Guys,   Went down to Hunts of Marlow today to go and get some track and a couple of points for the new board.   Got home and tried a few plans, I soon realised that the orignal plan is not going to work because of the gap between Platform 4 and the headshunt. So we came up with a new plan, here it is on the board:     I quickly redrew the plan in anyrail:     All the buildings are the same as the original plan (see last entry)   Tomorrow, I'll stick down the cork and hopefully
