Moving on…

Having completed the ballast in the Carndonagh station, made a mock-up of the station and got point motors installed (Hornby surface mounted) I’m now moving on to electrics. While the layout is DCC I am going to use a separate switchboard for points as I think that it would be too fiddly to control them all on my Hornby Select (see diagram for the method I’ll use). Of course I’ll have a DCC power bus the length of the layout. With summer ending soon and schoolwork looming, in really want to get

Ballast! Again

Sorry! I don’t know what happened! Here is a picture of the ballast. As I said, 50/50 mix of modge podge and a few drops of washing up liquid. Still waiting for those point motors, they’ll be here in a few days. Comment!

Ballast!

A test section of ballast has been laid in carndonagh station. I’d like to hear your thoughts! I used woodland senics fine grey ballast and modge podge glue watered down and applied with a spray bottle. Once I get 4 more point motors I’ll ballast the whole section. Comment!

Carndonagh track plan decided

The track plan for carndonagh station is decided. I had to leave out the second goods line for space reasons. Find attached a picture of my track and of the original track. Some parts are to be replaced with new pieces and 2 uncouple units are needed. However I’m happy with the look. Meanwhile Fahan is in doubt due to a lack of room and a wide trackplan.   Comment and follow!

Track plan step further

Track plan could have been hard if it wasn’t for ordnance survey Ireland. I put on a historical filter and simply zoomed in over carn and Fahan and took a screenshot. As you can see they are excellent, buildings and track clearly marked and labelled. I hope to formulate a track plan soon and I’ll put it here when I do.   I hope to complete baseboard construction soon and meanwhile will wrestle with a problem. Hornby or Peco code 100 track?

Track plan strap further

Finding the actual trackplans for the stations “in the day” was going to be hard, carn was not a commercial success. I used ordnance survey Ireland with a historical filter and it was fantastic! The buildings are clearly marked and labelled and it was free!   I hope to finish baseboard construction soon and meanwhile will wrestle with a problem. Hornby or Peco track?

First entry

The Londonderry and Lough Swilly Railway was Ireland’s most northern Railway line. It began in Londonderry and terminated at Carndonagh passing through many small stations on the way. I have chosen this as my layout, more specificity Carndonagh and Fahan. If anyone knows where to get trackplans please PM me right away. Baseboard construction is underway as is initial research. I’m only 13 but I do my best.   Follow and comment!
