What about another siding?

At the Mickleover show it occurred to me that a short siding running up to the end of the coaling stage would

  1. Provide somewhere to store the Colliery "loco coal" wagon
  2. Fill a space that is a bit empty that has been bothering me for a while

So if I ripped up the shed road up to somewhere next to the coaling stage and slotted in a steamline short radius point would give something like this:

The Anyrail diagram is very approximate, I've not measured anything, but I only need enough of a spur to get a Parkside 5 plank wagon in, although I bet a loco hides up there at some point!

I have a spare output on the accessory decoder for this board so automating it would not be too much of a headache.

So, should I go through all the heartache of ripping up the existing track and ballast for a little more operational potential?

Lets see if one of the traders at Sheffield this weekend has an SL-E191 .....

and a pack of PL-9 point motor bases (only need one) and some Dart Castings point levers (only need one!)

I would say your reason 2 is a good reason not to! 'Fill a space' is the curse of railway modellers!

fair point Jim, my main concern is that it would look too contrived, difficult to say really  would be nice to have somewhere to show off the wagon though .....

If you used a curved point a little to the right of where you show the new straght point you would:-

1) have a couple of inches extra in the siding to hide that loco you mentioned

2) avoid the track in the siding going right then back left in a very short disance

HTH

Hi Jim, what you maybe don't realise is that there is a baseboard joint on the gridline immediately to the right of the new point, nice thought though, I'll have a play ....

A little cameo like a stored loco coal wagon would I think add further to an already superb model. Enjoyed seeing the layout working at Mickleover last Sunday by the way.

hmmm, man with wheelbarrow, a few weeds, overgrown, buffer blocks fixed to the side of the coaling stage, oil tanker chassis (left over from the water tower) leaning against the back of the coaling stage "stored" for future use as a flatbed perhaps .....
