About this blog

This blog will follow the build of my 7mm kits. I expect this to be steady as I only expect to build two or three items a year

A wonderfull Christmas time

I have just been surprised and delighted by receiving a DJH 7mm A4 with Corridor tender along with Slaters wheels and plunger pickup's. Even more encouraging is the 12 metres of Peco track that accompanied it.   I followed it up by suggesting to the wife that I now needed some LNER coaches to go with it.   I have to admit that like others I don't think that the blog is generating the same type of interest and dialogue that the traditional thread does. So when I post updates on my coach bu

And a bit more

I made further progress on the BG on Sunday but the weather has been terrible so Photos have had to wait until today. I have assembled the underframe trussing and the solebars and made a start detailing the underframe castings - adding cable to the dynamo etc. The battery box looks to be quite a crude casting with no back as is usual with cast battery boxes. I am still trying to decide whether to make a new one out of brass or just make a back for the cast one. No further progress with the 4mm o

Coming along nicely - body assembled

I managed to make quite good progress with the coach body on Saturday PM and Sunday. After spending time making my mini drill powered cut off device (on my Q7 thread) I turned my attentions to this coach. I managed to get the body assembled after much pondering how to hold it square for soldering.   I ultimately soldered it with a cheap and cheerful version of a micro flame (I bought it off a market stall with a view to just using it for soldering solid DJH chassis frames together). It proved

Started - Sides and ends detailed ready for assembly

After being away for a few days trying very hard to find further information for my Q7 build I decided that this could wait no longer (I have to be honest and say I am surprised I have resisted so far).   Any way I took it out of the box for real yesterday and started to ad the detail to the sides ending up tonight with the sides and ends below to show for my efforts.   After reading the Derby line thread and enquiring of Tony (Diabateg) where he got his cast door stops from the reply being

What's in the box

I have now got around to taking a picture of what's included in the box. The additions are as you would expect wheels (slaters) and paint/transfers which will be Halfords Rover Damask Red and HMRS when I get there. The roof, floor, solebars and their overlays are all generic part and will need cutting to length for this 50' coach (presumably they are for a 57' one but I haven't measured them).   More progress to follow when I get to it.

CRT Kits LMS Period 1 Full Brake

I have decided to have a go at a blog for my 7mm builds as I don't expect to build that many - I have far too many 4mm kits in the to build pile to abandon 4mm.   I mentioned to my wife earlier this year that I would like to build something in 7mm as a display piece. She bought me this kit for my birthday in October.   I will post some pics of the etches first and then of the build as it progresses. I probably wont actually start the build itself for a couple of weeks as I want to make pro
