Sometimes, I find, it only takes a little work to set a RTR product apart from its brethren and a few minor alterations here and there can certainly help to capture the character of the prototype. I do not consider myself particularly skilled so nothing here comes under the banner of 'major surgery'. With that in mind, let's meet our first patient: 47847
Here it is, as Heljan intended, pretty much. Looking over it, there are a couple of things that are just wrong - the boiler exhaust be
I've studied the forum for a short while before deciding that the only safe place for this post is in my rather sporadic blog. It doesn't really fit in photography or the feedback group so here it shall stay.
This afternoon, I was struck with a desire to have a play. There was little organisation - just an old piece of ply, some redundant track and a Peco Diesel Shed. Long story short, I threw down some track, broke the shed into two sections and dug out a couple of locos. I did put some pow
My relationship with Superstrip didn't exactly start well. I employed the "toothbrush" method and found that very quickly, my lovely clean stripper had turned into a green sludge and sprayed everywhere. Time for a new bottle... more of the same although I have found that it really struggled with the yellow on a L/L Hornby 50. Time for a new bottle...
Got a big one this time and chucked it in a washing up bowl. Dropped the shell in there and sloshed it around for five mins. Bingo!

Having recently taken delivery of some elderly Triang track and accessories, I ventured out to a toy fair today. Two reasons got me out of the house, one was to see if this stuff was in any way in demand and the other was to snap up a bargain (if there is such a thing any more).
Firstly, I have established that there is little demand for Triang stuff so I'll clean it up and use it for fun. Bargain wise, I had my eye )God knows why) on a Hornby 155. The chap had it up for £40 but said I coul
It's been a interesting weekend. My 19-month old daughter seems quite taken with the novelty of having me at home since Friday and the wife has been unwell. I haven't had any time really to do any modelling for a while now and this weekend was going to change that. See above for why that wasn't the case...
Anyway, this evening, after the child was safely tucked up in bed, I set about a simple re-numbering to make me feel better. I gathered my info on the subject matter only to find that phot
Poor weather and the onset of cabin fever have led me to this, God help us all.
In case of a sudden attack of Diorama, take one scrap piece of MDF, 18inches by 10 inches and then spend an evening scouring fotopic for inspiration. Once inspired you can press on with step two.
Scrawl a rough plan onto your scrap MDF
Add some track...
...and instantly become dissatisfied with the look of it so add another piece with adjusted sleeper spacing.
More later, as they say.
I seem to have missed what would be a crucial element of the blog idea and that is to update as you progress.
The VEA is moving along in fits and starts but most of it happened in a big rush one morning. I'll pop a picture up later...
P.S. The other reason I have managed an update is to test the Firefox workaround for the year/date problem. Looks like it works.
Welcome.
You're lucky people, you know that?
My first draft (deleted through incompetence) was brimming with a pointless pre-amble but I can't be bothered to recreate it now.
Behold, one and all, my latest and smallest project to date: The Parkside VEA
Join me as I struggle to complete something for myself (never a problem when the model is for someone else oddly...)
