Micro Plank Designs?

Knuckles

As I'm now layoutless again I have decided to build a tiddler above my bed. Any input or ideas would be appreciated. So far thinking along these (railway) lines...

I'm now thinking of doing a series of micro layouts to iron out ballseybodgycockupadoodoowz could you please provide ideas on the following designs. I found I actually have just over 4' overall so that helps a little. If I decide to do this in 4mm rather than N then...

They are the track plans I'm thinking of doing. Any ideas on this, track tweaks or scenery theme?

Hi Knuckles, these are good designs in my view, and are crying out for some kind of industrial situation, or perhaps a run-down light railway theme, maybe in a more rural area.

I like the kick-back part of it, as it increases the variety of shunting moves possible.

Ideal for Pecketts, Andrew Barclays or small main line tank locos!

Thanks. Who's the 'we?' :D

Undecided on the plan or theme but if you think these are a generally good start then that's promising.

I don't see how the kickback can be functional without a run around though. No idea - just looks good!

We?

Wee?

No idea, Guv, 'an that's the truth!

Re: the kickback, you'd come in with wagons front and rear of the loco. Some kind of specially authorised, slow speed move. No inspectors around to tell you off, and it's your railway anyway!

I have seen some very short RR loops, though, have a look at 'Sheep Lane' by NHY581 - excellent stuff.

I like the 'curved' look of the top one.  There's a good space for some scenic work (canal basin or w.h.y) that could be at the front if you used the 180°version (assuming bottom of plan is the front).

The choice between the others depends on what you think of 3-way points.  They are good space-savers if your priority is increasing the length of the available sidings but may be less likely in a prototypical formation (although I'm no expert on prototype layouts)
