With a few spare hours on Sunday (between walking dogs, lopping tree branches etc. You get the idea), I managed to progress a couple of my projects.
Out came the brushes and the Humbrol. Rails and timbers were painted on the coal drops, stonework was touched up and the coal piles were painted matt black.
When this had dried, the coal piles were glued in and real coal was added in various amounts to the cells of the drops. Finally weathering powders, black through dark brown, were brushed in as required:
The right hand pair of hoppers are coupled with B&B couplers, a variant of DG. On the left, the coupling is three link. I had been trying these for fixed rakes with mixed results; no doubt I'll return to this particular experiment once Brafferton is substantially finished:
Some 80% of the work on the coal drops will not be visible once the walkways are in. But sometimes you just have to do the full job so that the 20% that can be seen is believable.
Whilst the paint was drying on the coal drops, attention turned to motive power. The D49 and the N8 both need painting. The N8 is being painted for the third time for various reasons, the D49 is a virgin.
The bodies had been primed with Tamiya grey primer. Now Humbrol matt black and a little brown are applied using an airbrush:
A reasonable days work!
