Dry Run

A day off work today resulted in the chopping of some ply into some rather random looking shapes:

Some cutting of stripwood, then construction of the cross braces ensued which has resulted in a kit of parts to construct the baseboards from.

 

So I've arrived at the point where most things are in a state to allow a dry run of construction, apart from the profiled end panels and the backscene being cut to the correct shape and length for each board.

Overview of the entire layout (minus fiddle yard). I've cut the templates that I drew to determine the exact track plan and placed them on the relevant levels of the layout for a better representation of how it will look.

The station board, the pier will be a hammerhead with the ends being added from foamboard.

The town board, this is set to be my favourite part of the layout!

The quay and the beginning of the goods yard. The loco is Staffa which makes an interesting comparison to compare how big it looks on here against how big it does on Dunbracken! Ignore the placement of a cross brace near the point, this will actually be at the end of the baseboard when constructed.

The other half of the goods yard, the turntable (which has been cut out under the paper template) and the exit to the fiddle yard.

 

I'm REALLY pleased that the layout has now gotten to this stage as I can see all the little ideas I've had in my head for AGES beginning to appear cool.gif I'm hoping to make some progress on assembly of the boards over the next couple of weeks, I'll be able to move this back up into the loft where it will live rather than having to brace the cold like today! I can already see some interesting angles to take photos from, and am pleased that it's managed to retain a relatively good balance of scenery:track (in favour of scenery, of course)

That looks very promising, and the length of coastline will surely provide a stunning setting for the railway.

Thanks chaps. Updates may be sporadic as this is no longer the forum I use the most. However I'll endeavour to update my blog when there's something new to show.
