Yard Work

I've been cracking on with getting the basis of the goods yard in place.

Here are some photos of progress on building v2 of the goods shed (v1 just didn't look right), this time I decided to cut out the card that will form the base of the road and tie it into the platform surface too.

As you can see from the above photo, I've stuck the shell of the loco stabling shed together too.

It's enough to easily accommodate one of the large tank locos, has space down one side for a workbench which will be detailed, and an inspection pit cut into the floor.

Clearances are tight down the side of the building, but everything clears the buildings easily. I think it adds to the character a little. It seems no tighter than a lot of buildings/walls on Welsh NG lines.

Tin engine shed then Tom? - guessing based on the arc roof.

Whether the following is of interest or not, I don't know:

I've been contemplating goods yard crane practice of late, something we Scots seemed to go for in a big way is the three-legged "Scotch Derrick" style crane, made of timber.

Can't really say at this time of a Sunday night whether the NB went for them or not, but it's an idea I'm keen on for my own modelling - maybe something for you to consider as it'd be a bit different from the ubiquitous whitemetal "iron" crane.

Yup, tin roof, whitewashed sides.

It would be nice to have a derrick type of crane, but I don't think i'll have room to fit it in around what I've got planned, will take a look though as it would be nice to have an alternative to the usual kit cranes. If i can't fit one I might scratchbuild one to be a little different.
