We demand another rockery...

.. to paraphrase Monty Python.

More rock castings have been placed around the yard end of the layout to sort their positions before fixing them in place and carving the areas between them.

All these castings came out of one mould on one pour!!

Tweaking of the foam base needed to make sure there's sufficient clearance for stock, and to move it back from the turntable a bit.

I have been doing some work in the yard to add some ballast a la Nevard, i.e. air drying clay which is used to represent grimy and well trodden ballast. This has had a light stippling, then been brushed once dry to give it a slightly uneven texture.

Finally, the ratio bashes sporting their coating of red oxide primer. Sat on the pier.

The previous foam board paddle steamer hull has been replaced by a balsa version, this was due to a mistake in cladding it in plasticard. I'll have to do it again, and thought I would use the opportunity to build something a bit more rigid at the same time.

And, yes, that is a Terrier body lurking over the back. It's just resting on a Farish A3 chassis at the moment.

An impressive rock collection. No doubt there'll be room for a shrubbery or two in amongst them?

You're obviously stoned.

In fact, the whole layout looks slightly surreal at this point: Eg the tree in the second-from-last picture! Or the Terrier on an A3 chassis! What's next - melting watches?

Jokes aside, there's something refreshingly different about how this layout is developing, I really like it.

Will there be fish burgers for sale at Mac Fisheries? :-)

There may be a shrubbery or two, I'll have to get on to Roger the Shrubber to come round and add some.

It does look a bit surreal all without colour.

Mac Fisheries is a fish processing plant, so you wouldn't want to eat any of their output without cooking it ;)

I've been following this on that other forum. I must admit, I still wonder about this being an exhibition layout and having the curve the way you have it. How do you intend to invite the punters to get in close and personal to view it under exhibition conditions?

The whole layout is shaping up to be a true classic - keep going and posting.

It's worked well so far at both 009 Society meetings where there have been quite a few of us milling around it, and also at a private exhibition. I don't really see why it would be any harder to get in close to than a straight layout to be honest. Anyway, it's a bit late now.

Thanks, will do :)
