Modular Model Railway Layout (MMRL)

Dukedog

Now that Morfa Bach is almost completed a start has been made on module 2 Penmaenpool MPD, based on the actual prototype that existed on the Cambrian coast line between Dolgelleau and Morfa Mawddach.

Each module will be a "mini" layout or diorama in it's own right. At exhibitions the exhibition manager will have the choice of which "modules" he wants at his show.

The caveat is that the "basic layout" of Morfa Bach and Penmaenpool MPD must be included, modules 3&4 (yet to be decided) are to be optional add ons.

Here's a block diagram showing the options that I hope will be available.

Each layout board will be 4ft long and 1ft wide. The two fiddle yard are slightly wider to accommodate the turntable type storage roads.

More as it develops.

Cheers

Great idea Frank,

Seeing how Morfa Bach has progressed I'm really looking forward to seeing the loco shed scene.

You might also consider some curved boards at some stage, giving you and exhibition managers a bit more flexibility.

Sometimes they could do with an 'L' shaped railway to go around a protrusion into the room or a corner that is awkward to fill.

Regards

Richard

Edited for finger slip!

Frank - this looks like a great idea. Penmaenpool itself would make a superb scene, would it not?!... ;-)

Are each of the modules self supporting ? Or do you have ones with legs and ones without ?

Thanks for the comments folks, much appreciated.

CK, yes I think the location has very much potential I just hope I can give it good justice.

Stu, No legs on the modules as such. I intend to use builders trestles as support for the whole show. (saves time on wood butchering my own!)

HH, Curved baseboards, may be a possibility, The only drawback is I want to keep the minimum radius to no less than 36inches. But, it is worth considering.

Cheers guys!

Frank
