37411 returns

Out of traffic for a long period , most part of this year, 37411 has been returned . For some reason it has an intermittent problem where it fails to recognise the Chip. The Sound Chip has been replaced and it's still suffering . It also had collision damage (snapped lamp irons) & got an accidental spray of rust. So it's had a new biff Chip , new Zimo double dumbo . A re weather (it was originally done near ex works by Jon Gavin) and replacement lamp irons . Here it is seen approaching Inver

Return of 37240

37240 has been out of traffic for most of the year. It was running on a Howes V3.5. For some reason it suffered slow speed running in one direction . Full strip down at a friends found a rather prototypical 'no fault found'. Re assembly and re fit with Bifs V4.0 found the the problem still at large. Bogie swap then cured the issue . Fitted with a double dumbo Zimo speaker and a ESU powerpack under the bonnet has meant it now runs superbly. I wasn't happy with my original weathering so it had a m

Meanach re moddled

After ripping this section of the layout apart , it's finally back up and running. Now with a less severe and more realistic gradient profile . I've merged the old plaster cloth with new and added some additional cutting. Also completed is the Severn models brass plate layers hut.   26023 is seen passing the the new hut and cutting , hauling some Grampus wagons I've nearly finished weathering.

Possession at Meanach

I've never been entirely happy with the 3 % gradient I installed on the first board I built for Meanach . It was the first layout I'd built since my early teens and the hobby has progressed massively . Whilst gradients on the Kyle line resemble a roller coaster when viewed from the road , it just looked too steep. Whilst we are all confined by space (or lack of!) , the section after the bridge needed a little more space before the incline.   Despite the fact I was pleased with the scenics , I

37421 blasts up the bank

Class 37 , 421 blasts up the 1 in 48 gradient away from Meanach heading towards Perth. For some reason some of the fleet do not get photographed as much . 421 is a bit of a 'problem child ' electrically and always seems to have mysterious gremlins !

26 sound with air tanks

Recently re fitted 26035 . Fitted with zimo multi drive . 2 x 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel . 1 on top of bogie tower and one 23mm trax mega bass speaker fitted with DIY plasticard enclosure between drilled out water tank. It 'just' fits . Wires routed via hole drilled in sole bar. Also added a you choose super cap , well worth it over the standard stay alive and nearly as good as the ESU for half the cost !

Watery woes

Having topped up the river with realistic water I had a nasty surprise. The realistic water reacted with water effects to create a nasty , white , pva splodgy mess. I had to cut out 4 layers of set realistic water and start again. Let this be a warning to you ! It's fine when applied on top of, but obviously not when it's underneath. It did however , give me a chance to re do the river banks and alter the river bed slightly . Here's the (very nearly) finished mk 2 version.

Water replenish

Meanach's river was looking rather flat , like it had run dry. After 2 top ups with realistic water it's now looking more flowing. Originally made with pollyfiller and layers of paint . 26005 is seen heading west deputising for the failure of the booked 37.   Yesterday's down morning speed link seen having a crew change .

The return of 408

The return of Loch Rannoch to the Meanach fleet. I had a 408 very early in Meanachs construction. It was a bit ropey so it left the fleet some years ago. It's now re joined the pool ! Seen here working 2H03 , Sundays only Fortwilliam - Perth.

R.E.T.B boards come to Meanach

After decidedly not getting around to my MSE signal kits I took the lazy option and fitted R.E.T.B boards to Meanach. Seen waiting on the down , 423 pauses waiting the token on to the West highland line and Tulloch.

Train spotter avoids the midge!

A train spotter avoids the midge . He can't be out photting kettles tho as he's the right side of the fence! ; ) Ah he's got the gen that the monster that is 37033 is out. Lucky it's only a short walk back to the station... And a 2 1/2 hour wait for the next passenger train. Let's hope he brought his car!

I'm back !

After electrical problems then water damage from a leaky roof I lost heart for most of last year . The damage has now been repaired and I've been catching up on projects . Lots of models to weather , kits to make , scenery to add etc . I'm still repairing the water damaged back scene which is 50 % replaced.

Welcome to Meanach

26035 working 2P14 Tulloch - Perth School train.   Welcome to Meanach. A lonely passing place set half way between Tulloch on the West highland line and Newtonmore on the central highland main line. A proposed route for mainly freight traffic that in this parallel universe was opened in 1905. A hamlet dominated by high hills and the perthshire mountains amid ferocious rivers with the sound of EE Type 3s slipping on the heavy gradients either side of the island station.
