An engine shed for Pen Y Bont (Sub shed of 89C)

One or two of you have asked for more details of the engine shed I built last year ready for the new extension to my layout Pen Y Bont.

Rather than include the details in my layout thread I'll post the construction details here.

The design of the shed is based on the one that once stood at Aberaeron.

I have had to shorten the building quite considerably though due to limited space of the layout.

Here's the construction stages.

The building was built entirely of Pasticard with the exception of the windows which are etched brass.

The etchings are from Modelex and are intended for their LNWR signal box of all things! They looked about right for what I wanted so I bought 2 packs.

This is the shed before painting,

I usually use Slaters roof slates for most of my buildings but, this takes an absolute age to glue the individual strips of slates on the roof and to be honest I have had some problems in the past with the roofs of buildings distorting after a while once the MEK sets.

I decided to try some Slaters embossed plasticard this time and the job was a lot easier and quicker to do that way.

Here is the shed complete and painted,

I hope you agree that the roof slates don't look too bad.

The guttering is half round 3mm Evergreen strip, and the down pipes are from a Wills sprue.

That just about sums it up in a nutshell hope those who asked for this entry like it.

Cheers

Frank
