Standard Tank, under the weather!

Dukedog

Greetings again from the Dukes kitchen table!

This weeks project has just come off the bench.

Last year SWMBO got me this BR standard 3 2-6-2T unweathered of course.

I really wanted the green one but, as it was a supprise gift from SWMBO I had no choice in the matter! (No change there then!)

Anyway the loco as it came is built as a southern region job and of course I wanted a western region job.

So, out with the tool box, remove the two unwanted lamp irons from the smokebox door and super glue the door shut. I'm not impressed with the opening smokebox door on this model, It's a bit of a gimmick to be fair. Even with it open the tube plate is too far forward so I see no use for it to open. Hence the superglue job.

I also fitted the hand rail and knobs to the top of the boiler that distinguishes the western region locos. Some home made Vac and heating pipes, and screw couplings have been fitted.

Then it was time to get dirty!

I used a mixture of different Humbrol enamels for the weathering and to save a full page of blow by blow account here's a couple of pictures of the finished job.

Real coal has been glued in the bunker and some Springside lamps fitted.

All ready to run on Pen Y Bont

Cheers

Frank

These tanks were green on the Cambrian and were kept quick spick. I recall the shock and sadness of seeing them in Manchester around 1965 after they had left the Cambrian and they were looking very down at heel.
