Modified Hall pt2: an experiment in lining
A little more work on rebranding of my modified hall, as mentioned previously I have started redoing the boiler lining from bachmanns red to orange. In each case the transfers were pressed into place and the backing paper was removed with microsol (with the aim that it would soften the transfer over the boiler band.
It looks a little scrappy in closeup, but at about a 12 inch viewing distance it doesn't look too bad. I do think that I need to buy some waterslide transfers to see how I get on with those (I think it may come off a little better).
Once the second side is finished I will give it a coat of varnish before reassembling pending the work on the front of the frames.
I have now finished the first side (bar one line on the firebox which I think I will re do. The other side is just needing the cab side and the top feed pipe. The latter was by far the hardest bit to get the transfer tonfit properly.
After tiredness put a stop to the transfers, I dig out the red paint to repaint the buffer beam. This loco needs to be in practically brand new condition, most of bachmanns weathering on the loco is below the running plate (i.e. Areas needing paint anyway) the red will need at least one more coat the it's onto the black (smokebox door, cylinders and rest of the area below the footplate. While I was at it I also picked out the sides of the small part of visible frame in red.
