GWR Modified Hall Part 4: Tender Lining

The Fatadder

Following on from my pre work modelling session, this evening I have made another step forward on the modified hall. I have decided to go with the Bachmann tender, the Hornby one will return to the spares box for the moment (though I have seen reference to Maindy Hall running in late 47 with a hawksworth tender which may give it a use...)

The first step was to remove the weathering from the Bachmann tender, along with the removal of the BR crests. For this I resorted to neet enamel thinners. It didn't take long to shift both the weathering and the crest from the sides, along with the black part of the lining. I then removed the inner orange line and much of the outer line with ryectop of a scalpel. The rest of the outer line was left as a guide for the transfers.

The end was more tricky with detail getting in the way, a fibreglass brush was used to assist the process (and made a very good job of cleaning the buffer beam.
The sides ended up very shiny (great for transfers).

The next job was adding the transfers, starting with the corners and then adding the straight lengths between then. This was followed by the G crest W logo. There are some tiny gaps between straight and corner, in one I've tried overlaying a length of transfer, but I'm wondering if a paint touch up would be better.
Now just need to line the other side and line the end.

Must get on and order the conversation kit tomorrow so I can get on with the final push. Wishing I had ordered name plates in Modelmasters sale, but hadn't decided at the time if I would keep it in lined green at that point. Now I'm please with the end result, it will definitely stay in green
