ice and a slice...

Posted by bcnPete , 07 December 2011 · 1,237 views

Back again...

The ice of course refers to my Gin Tonic cooler...but unfortunately the slice doesn't refer to the lemon...

Having decided to try and remove the PVA first thing this evening (the white patch became worse when I prodded it so I figured Neils method would be fruitless) I proceeded to scrap away with the scalpel...and take a slice out of my finger in the first five minutes...I wouldn't mind but I hadn't even drunk from my GinTonic yet

Anyway...PVA now removed and I took the opportunity to fill some gaps between the water base and quayside (that I had thought the PVA would eventually cover) with some Humbrol model filler....duly slapped on and awaiting sanding and repainting for the third attempt at water.

Humbrol model filler...strange stuff to work with...

Next up the station building...it just had to go...although the previous one has been kept to help scale off some dimensions.

I have decided to retry with 1mm white artists card onto which I will (I think) next apply a layer of perspex with the windows...and then apply postcard thickness layers of card to build up the detail...if I can control my patience, I may try to paint some of the elements before placing on the model.

This time I have cut out the openings, made a base and the whole thing seems a little squarer and not twisted as the other one became.

I feel a lot happier working in card again I must say - mojo partially restored and I hope to keep it stoked again...

This time I can add a close up again...

Finally...it's goodnight from me...and goodnight from him...

A well deserved drink. Well done Pete; hope the finger's ok.

hope the finger's ok.

Thanks Jon...it was fine...until I cut another slice of lemon which found its way into the wound... :O
You seem to have cut out the station building ok so the fingers must be working alright. If the slice of finger had gone into the drink would that have produced a pink gin? Sorry being silly. Carpet fitter earlier this week had a finger bandaged cut off a slice including half the nail we decided chain mail gloves for the non knife holding hand would be the answer.
Don
I thought your new water looked great, then I realized it was a Gin Tonic

The new station building does look more sturdy. Will be interesting to follow the gradual build-up of detail, please continue to keep us updated :-)
"And the sea's around Kyle ran red with blood".

Yes, Yes very good but if you're going for telling a biblical type of story then I feel the railway modelling is not the medium to do it in.

Hope that it's 3rd time luck for the water.

its not a real modelling if there isnt a little blood

least that what I tell myself

but its Lime with Gin

interesting concept for modelmaking that one Don!...but a little architect's band aid (masking tape) and a glug from the glass and the slice became irrelevant allowing progress on the station...

If only it looked that good! Thanks Mikkel...will try and log progress on the station make-up as I go...

Your the poet Kris, not me ;) Yes...third time lucky...my modelling always seem to get serialised by the amount of disasters in my methods!

but its Lime with Gin

Nick, hi...you know that...I know that...but my fridge wasn't playing ball last night...lemon's a good stand in when things get desperate!...
Perhaps if you incorporate the bits of finger into your next water layer you could say it was fish offal thrown overboard by passing fishermen.....people like that sort of detailing on models.
Good luck with it

Thanks Ian...its getting gruesome this...could be the first blog to have a PG rating...:O
Good work Pete (apart from the finger slciing obviously).

If you need any pictures of Kyle station (or any particular bits of it) then let me know as I will be passing through at least once (and probably twice) over the Christmas period.

Cheers, Mike

Thanks Mike...and for the kind offer of photos.

I will have a quick check and PM you on any areas I am a little thin on...shame you can't turn back the clock to 79/80 while you are there!
I am afraid time travel is not within my gift! Somewhere* I must have photos from the mid-late 80s...

M

* quite where that somewhere might be is another matter!

No problem Mike...I have accumulated quite a few in my research...I just need to get on and finish it now :)
