LOCOS FOR FUTURE BUILDING

GWR, LMS, SOUTHERN, LSWR
I am still undecided whether to move the loco building from the blog here to a thread. But in the meantime I have some thinks that I am lining up to build in the future some are ready and others needa few more parts adding.

I have an early Ex LSWR/Southern S15 to do, this will no doubt be a challenge as it is from the ACE range. It now has everything ne...

Goodies from the UK

Posted by N15class , in WORKSHOP 20 January 2015 - - - - - - · 331 views

Here I am back in Belem. With lots to sort out, but still things required, I just did not get enough time to sort or buy everything I wanted. Plus there would of been complaints from the suitcase packing authorities.

Mind you we may be back in the UK in September so I can restock more then too. I would like to get my lathe here. But that I may have probl...

THE CUPBOARD

Posted by N15class , in WORKSHOP 26 May 2014 - - - - - - · 343 views

I have since moving to the new workshop want a storage cupboard, a stationary type but better. After searching and having no luck we found a guy to do SWMBO dressing table. He was willing to do my unit. So he made mine first so we could see the quality before spending loads on the dresser.

Well it has arrived and is fine so he has the next phase to do no...

Posted by N15class , in WORKSHOP 10 May 2014 - - - - - - · 315 views

Finally I have some good news to report.

Work is going to be starting again soon. I had my wheels turn up from the UK. They finally arrived after almost a life time in Brazil. I had sent something like 30 emails to the post office here.

There is enough here to keep me going for a while.

Here is what I got. Something nice for you GW fans. Looking at the...

TIME FOR ANOTHER LOCOMOTIVE

7mm SCALE, O GAUGE, 1-43.5 and 1 more...
The time has come to start another loco. Well, restart one I bought this kit some years ago. It was completely untouched. It came with a set of AJH wheels which I would of kept if it was for myself. Which I have swopped for Slaters. But being such a bargain at the time, I got enough for the wheels to buy the Slaters ones and cover the cost of buyiing the...

WIN SOME, LOSE SOME.

GWR, EBAY, COLLETT, LOCOS
Win some, lose some.

Some time ago I bought a Collett goods from a well known site. Did not cost too much, so you pay your money and take the chance.

Well if you remember this is the way I got the Hall. Which for the price I was in a win, win situation.

This one arrived a little while ago and I only had a really good look at it today. I work on the...

SAFETY CHAINS FOR DOOR LATCHES ETC

WAGON, KIT BUILD, SCRATCH BUILD and 2 more...
Here is my way of adding the little details of saftey chains on doors, brake gaurds etc. Not sure when or when I found out about doing them this way. It is not my idea but for me it works.

I start by making the loop that would hold the pin in place. These can be made any size, I just pick a drill that makes a loop slightly bigger than the pin it goes ove...

SOME GOODIES ARRIVE

Posted by N15class , in WORKSHOP 28 June 2013 - * * * * * · 604 views

No it was not Bill Oddy and friends.

I have now got the Deeley chimney and smokebox door from Dragon models, so the 3130 is go again.

I also ordered from Dragon a 12 ton low machinery truck, just for me. It is the old Majestic one but for under £30 I feel it is great value. It might be on the bench in a day or two. I have not built anything from new l...

7mm, O GAUGE, KIT BUILT, WAGONS
I have been attacking a few plastic wagons as I have been stuck at the appartment. I was half way through a Parksibe brake van and thought it ought to be compensated, but could see no easy way around it. Then I thought I like Haywoods spring system could I incorporate this into the Parkside kit.

Well here is to receipe.
Drill the top of the axle box and...

Posted by N15class , in WORKSHOP 19 February 2013 - - - - - - · 342 views

The bench is all ready for me to start working on, I am still a bit short of something to sit on though. But I do not want to get to comfortable there as I still need to do small jos in there for my daughters visit in March. I have today started moving my modelling kit to the new workshop, or should I say some of it. I have decided to keep the wagons wher...

THE NEW WORK SHOP (2)

Posted by N15class , in WORKSHOP 09 November 2012 - * * * - - · 306 views

As I have been away from the bench a lot lately I thought I would post an update about the new workshop. As we had to get out of the contract with the first builder. We had a redisign on a lot of the house and added a few rooms and made our bedroom better and managed to get a balcony on our room too. We have got to the final stages now so we are going to...

Well it seems that my airbrush compressor will be arriving from North America tonight. So I may well have to change track tomorrow and get on with some painting tomorrow. It will be interesting as I have not spayed using an airbrush for a while now.

Mind you if the weather is anything like today I don't think I will get anywere near to paint. Today we...

So what comes next (2)

Well here is the choice narrowed down to two thanks to the input from here. They have not taken to nine months storage very well, both have a lot of tarnishing. The atmospher here in North Brazil really attacks the brass. Even when working on a model if left for a couple of days the brass tarnishes, you just can't keep it looking nice and shiny as you...

So with LSWR 735 coming to the end of its build, I have to decide what to do next.

My wife has got me a compressor for my birthday, just got to wait for it to arrive from North America. should be at the end of the month. When it comes I will get on with the painting of Buffalo, and 735, plus what ever else is completed.

I have a choice, of a LMS Ivatt...

Locos, kit built, 735 and 4 more...
Although this is for the A1 735 I thought it was a far better workshop post
The reasons for altering the buffers for the A1.
1) they sit very close th the footplate.
2) I could not see an easy fixing the heads
3) Did not want to solder them on assembled.

I had seen an article about making them selfcontained some time ago, so we have to try from memory as...

Thoughts of models

Workshop, A1, LSWR, SR, Kit built and 2 more...
It always amazes me how even when I am away from my model bench. Even when on holiday my mined often turns to problems that need to be solved at the bench. It would in its self not be a bad thing, but why midnight, why not while I was sat in the car for four hours. Whether the thoughts of food stopped my brain from side tracking or maybe it was thinking of...

foreign rails, Belem, cranes
Here we are on Sunday night, I have not done any modelling over the weekend, only look a at 735. As normal for Sundays we went out to lunch. It was a lovely place down by the river, there is in the little area a butterfly collection, and an aviary and what the call the Belem lighthouse. It is just a tower without a light at top, I will post a photo when I...

Slow progress

Posted by N15class , in WORKSHOP 20 January 2012 - - - - - - · 262 views

It has been a bad couple of days model making wise. But progress else where. The start of the problems was yesterday, it was lovely and cool for here, 23C first thing. Unfortunately this normally means rain, and we were not let down. Hopefully my video will upload, I think it is why it gets called the rain forest.

I could not upload the video, I will see...
