Tutbury Supermeet

Posted by D869 , in out and about, south yard 25 June 2016 - - - - - - · 730 views

The Tutbury Supermeet has come and gone. I'd like to thank John Aldrick and his helpers for organising a very enjoyable day.
I spent most of it operating South Yard but had plenty of interest all day and by mid-afternoon I started to lose my voice because I'm not used to nattering quite so much. An unsuspecting Anthony Yeates asked if I'd mind him t...

A 'P' Set for South Yard

Posted by D869 , in south yard, coaches 24 June 2016 - * * * * * · 890 views

Some considerable time ago I invested in a couple of Chris Higgs' Maunsell coach kits. It was a bit of an impulse buy - I've always fancied having a north Cornwall 'P' set even though it doesn't fit with my usual core themes. Having languished in the gloat box ever since, I decided that South Yard's appearance at the upcoming (err... tomorrow) Supermeet a...

The Regreening of South Yard

Posted by D869 , in south yard 06 May 2016 - - - - - - · 901 views

Things have been pretty quiet over the winter season modelling-wise. The building work on the house has taken up a lot of my attention, even though it was being done by someone else. We are still progressing with the aftermath (painting, light fittings, yada yada) but I'm finding that I now have a bit more time for the important things in life. Anywa...

Merry Christmas

Posted by D869 , in south yard 23 December 2015 - * * * * * · 871 views

As a late December evening draws in, 4574 and her crew prepare to set off for home with just a brake van in tow after having delivered a few wagons to South Yard. The cameraman manages to capture the scene with the train almost silhouetted by the solitary lamp that passes for illumination on the platform these days.

Normally I'd post a seasonal messag...

Let it... well, you know

Posted by D869 , in south yard 22 December 2014 - * * * * * · 925 views

A light dusting of snow has fallen on the Plymouth area this morning. The coal men have turned up for work but retreated into the office to keep warm and get a brew going while they wait for the trip freight. Meanwhile D6309 has turned up with a couple of 16 tonners which it is positioning for unloading so they'll need to be venturing out again but it loo...

Nottingham 2014

Posted by D869 , in south yard, out and about 15 March 2014 - * * * * * · 1,310 views

A few photos from South Yard's day out at Nottingham. A good day out was had by all and it was nice to catch up with some 2mm friends for the day.

The layout worked well all day and I got lots of nice comments.

The new backscene being cut out from its surrounding card. In the end I went back to watercolour because I'm too new to Acrylic and things jus...

A Sense of Place

Posted by D869 , in south yard 06 March 2014 - * * * * * · 881 views

... or maybe plaice!

It's been bugging me for a while that South Yard has a rather dull backscene. It's also a bit low now that the new lighting rig is in position so I've been thinking about doing something about it.

Now South Yard is a real place in Plymouth (or rather Devonport, Stoke Damerel or 'Dock' depending on how old fashioned you want to be)....

Time for a Tidy Up

Posted by D869 , in south yard 26 February 2014 - - - - - - · 768 views

Those of you on the 2mm_notices mailing list will have seen Edward Sissling's request for micro layouts to appear on the (bigger) Association stand at the Nottingham show next month. I've volunteered South Yard to attend on the Saturday (15th March)... since I pretty much always go to the Nottingham show anyway.

...all of which means that I need to do a...

More New Things

There hasn’t been a huge amount recently that has really justified a blog posting on its own but there has been plenty going on so here is a potted summary of recent developments and the covoluted paths by which they progressed through the works.

Another Stephen Harris tank is now ready for the paint shop. This one is a class ‘A’ tank. I went for one of...

Half Term at South Yard

Posted by D869 , in south yard 24 October 2011 - * * * * * · 1,337 views
I thought I would introduce South Yard by concentrating on what it is for so here is a picture of South Yard set up in the holiday cottage that we rented last week for our half-term holiday on the North York Moors.

I don't claim any originality in any of South Yard's ideas (or the title of this posting) -...
