Buckfastleigh & Staverton - Our Clubs 00 Gauge Layout, measuring 17 feet by 10 feet and having a station on either side and some freelance scenery on the ends this layout is being upgraded with some new scenery a replacement control panel for Buckfastleigh as well as new point motors fitted we're planing to run this as a preservation era layout with club members stock.

Ashmoor Vale - This is the O Gauge layout from the club - measuring a might 48 feet long and two feet wide, this layout is somewhere on the Devon/Somerset border and features a through station with a wharf scene and plenty of scratchbuilt buildings this can operate using DC or DCC at the same time! Thanks to some ingenious wiring under the boards.

Pointless 2 - This is from out N Gauge section and is a continious run consisting of double track folded in on itself in a double figure of eight with multiple levels so you're not quite sure where your train will emerge from next!

Ilfracombe - This under construction N Gauge Layout is approximately 16 feet long and is a true to prototype model. This has been shown before in an incomplete state but lots of work has been undertaken on the wiring of the layout so this year we hope to be able to run the first train into Ilfracombe for a long time!

Blaendare Road - A 00 Gauge layout from Barnhill MRC; A small terminus set high above Pontypool in the late 1950's through to the 1960's. With plenty of Goods traffic and passenger workings a very atmospheric BR(W) layout.

Nicton Borrud - A 00 Finescale layout from Barnstaple MRC, set somewhere in the hills of Hampshire this terminus is set in the late steam and early diesel period and features lots of area specific detail including some Southern Electric 3rd Rail EMU's.

Hornby 3-Rail - From Len Watson a selection of Hornby Dublo 3-Rail showing how the hobby has changed over time and introducing some nostalgia.

Shunting Puzzle - a G Scale layout where the viewer is encouraged to 'have a go' and solve the puzzle in as few moves as possible. There are no right or wrong ways to do it; just so long s you have fun with the large scale models.

Hounslow Sidings - A 00 Finescale layout by Raymond Norwood. Set in the South-London Suburbs this layout is a winter scene of the station yard with plenty of shunting to be had! DCC controlled and plenty of sounds from the locomotives to make an authentic scene.

Dads Army - An N Gauge layout set to the theme of the famous TV show in Walmington-on-Sea.

Building in O Gauge & Display - by Eddie Michel
Eddie, an IMRS member will have a table set up and be demonstrating the techniques of building brass kits in O Gauge as well as a display of some of the previous locomotive and rolling stock kits he has built.

We will also have a stand from the Ilfracombe Museum as well as two traders: Marks Models of Ilfracombe and Smallworld from Barnstaple. As a Model society we will also have a small stand of second hand items which will be available to purchase; all proceds from the Ilfracombe MRS Stand will be re-used by the club for more model making activities.

Out show this year is going to be held at The Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe, post code for Satnav is EX34 9BZ or alternatively for those who use what3words to help them navigate you'll find the combination of: bulletins.postings.slowness to be of some assistance in finding the show. It is going to be held on Saturday 30th March 2024 (Easter Saturday) and run from 10am to 4pm.

HRCA to celebrate 55th anniversary by opening its doors to non-members in Newark

The Hornby Railway Collectors' Association (HRCA) was formed in 1969 and in 2024, celebrates its 55th Anniversary. It will be hosting a special exhibition which will be open to non-members on Sunday 7th April 2024. HRCA events are normally members only but an exception has been made for this event, which brings together the products from the former Meccano factory in Binns Road, Liverpool which produced Hornby O Gauge, Hornby Dublo, Dinky Toys and associated ranges including Meccano itself.  Whilst the name Hornby is still very much part of the current model railway scene, today’s models are far removed from those that were built in the Liverpool factory up until 1964 when production ceased.

The 55th anniversary exhibition is being held at the Lady Eastwood Hall at Newark Showground, Lincoln Road, Newark, Nottinghamshire, NG24 2NY and will include some 22 operating layouts plus 12 displays and extensive trade support for those who wish to expand their own collections or start their own model railway journey.

The HRCA has around 2,400 members who receive ten copies of the HRCA Journal each year and have access to a wide range of supporting services. For operators of this much-loved range, the HRCA which was formed in 1969 has ensured that the trains have kept running and have been gaining in popularity with regular appearances at model railway club exhibitions throughout the world. HRCA members can join local groups which meet in halls to provide running facilities for members to operate their trains at regular intervals.

HRCA Chairman Don Gatiss said “ it will have been five years since we have assembled such a large display of Hornby O gauge, Hornby Dublo OO trains, other Meccano brands including Dinky Toys, Meccano and the Bayko building system. Members are attending from across the world and we are delighted to be able to provide non-members with the chance to come along and meet us, hopefully encouraging them to keep these trains operating for many years to come. It is over 100 years since Frank Hornby launched his first clockwork train set and we have come a long way since then. Such was the engineering prowess of the Meccano factory, that keeping these old models operating is not as difficult as people imagine, thanks to a comprehensive supply chain producing spare and replacement parts”.

Sunday admission charges will be £5 (accompanied children free) with opening times being from 1000 until 1600.

Further information about the HRCA can be found on their website www.hrca.net

    • Hillingdon Railway Modellers - Test Track Open Day
      By Solderpete,
A friendly get-together and good chance to run your models.
The refreshments are pretty good too.
    • Lincoln district model railway exhibition
      By Dagworth,
A well presented local club show with around a dozen layouts in 2, 4 and 7mm scales. The O gauge layout was actually one of the smallest layouts present.

Layouts were a mix of entertaining fiction through to well researched models of real places and places that had previously had railways but modelled as though those lines had survived the Beeching cull. A good mix of steam era and more modern diesel content too. One exhibit showed the true definition of a tail chaser, the train missing it's own tail by about 2 millimetres.
I was there helping with a layout presented as a work in progress that got quite a lot on interest showing how a layout was built.

A good social and meal on the Saturday evening in a local pub added to a great all-round weekend.

The show was VERY busy both days!

My thanks to the organising club and to @Clive Mortimore for letting me be his wingman for the weekend

Well done to Sean who organised the show.

      By Grampus,
A really enjoyable local show. I've just come back from spending a couple of hours there this afternoon. Friendly people and some great modelling. My personal favourite layout was 'Horncastle', which ticked a lot of (mostly blue and yellow with Railfreight grey and red) boxes for me. Well worth popping along tomorrow if you have a few minutes to spare. Thanks to all concerned for a nice afternoon out.

      All the best,

      Paul
