Whats the hulk on the left of the pic? how long was it there?
The hulk is the Training Ship Foudroyant which was there for very many years, until she was moved to Hartlepool and restored to her original condition as HMS Trincomalee. Certainly in the 50s, 60, and probably 70's she was used as a residential centre for boys and girls, usually in school or scout parties where they were taught the rudiments of sailing, pulling (rowing), navigation etc. I went there for many years and have very fond memories, especially of sleeping in hammocks! Like many activities in the 50s and 60s it was somewhat spartan but good fun.
