Right , I finally got round to start on the painting of the loading tower .I originally started with an obvious grey scheme but it looked a bit boring so went for something that would stand out a bit more ;

The colour I used is Vallejo "dark sand" and I think it makes it really "pop out"

Here it is on the layout to give an idea of what it looks like in the scene , the first pic is not its final position ;

Just need to put the conveyor belt in the loading chute , this will probably be just a ribbon of painted paper with an aggregate load glued on threaded through the framework.

Although you have been busy with night shift and sleeping, what you have done is outstanding to say the least. The loading tower looks great in the Vallejo 'dark sand' colour. The weathering on the tower and the small shed is superb and I do like all the small details added to the surrounds. Keep up the fantastic work and thankyou for the update. :good:

Cheers, Gary.

Filled in more of the groundwork around the points , justs needs a little weathering to match it up ( if you compare the two shots the flash shows up the difference between the fresh  and the weathered stuff )

Here we have more of the hardstanding added , this is just thick mounting card ( the stuff you get from art shops ) painted up , will probably have another structure in the top left corner to take up some of the empty space ;

Finally just a general shot to set the layouts mood !

Hi Col_Kilgore

Top Quality modelling, have you thought of putting this layout into any of the railway modelling magazine's?. This is a fabulous layout, with plenty of running potential and great inspirational layout for modellers who don't have much space available.

Kind regards

Dan

Thanks everyone for the continued interest and comments.

As for magazines Im not sure its something they would be interested in !

Anyway as usual when I build layouts , after looking at other layouts on here and looking at my own work , I always end up changing my plans. While at first I was happy with the loading tower theme after looking at my latest pictures I just dont think it worked visually and have decided to take a different path.

I have set about modding one of the structures into something with a bit more of a generalised industrial theme ;

As you can see just the addition of some Wills brick sheet and a repaint and some old Triang tanker bodies as storage tanks.

To me anyway I just think it looks a bit more contemporary and " real world " !

Anyway more to follow .

If we like your layout then the magazines will be interested because they show us the things in life we like. I think this micro is top draw modelling and i look at it and think, yeah i have seen somewhere like that. Same applies to the other, less is more layout, on rmweb at the moment called "the sidings".

Wow, this is looking good. I haven't looked in for a while now and what you have achieved in the last few weeks is superb. The plank has grown consistently from strength to strength. Keep the splendid work coming.

Cheers, Gary.

I am an expert at changing direction half way through a project.

I thought the loading tower was fine, but I do like the new buildings too.

As others have already said, 'a cracking little layout'

Funnily enough , your " Bridge St " layout was one of the things that made me change direction , it has a fantastic real world atmosphere about the buildings and the settings .

More work done on one of the structures ;

post-24972-0-86647800-1459798016_thumb.jpg

Took the trouble of adding gutters and drainpipes from the Wills detailing pack and after finding some Plastruct steps in my local model shop made up some steps.

A quick tip , if you want to make some steps , make sure you get the matching Plastruct hand rails ( my shop didnt have them ) as it was a very fiddly job making my own !

Just to get an idea of it in the scenery ;

Has anymore been happening with the layout recently ??

Cheers, Gary.

Hi mate ,

To be honest not a  great deal at the moment , the layout has kind of been put on the back burner .

I have been thinking of adding a couple more buildings , here's a couple of mockups I have been looking at ;

Hi mate , yes the points are just standard Peco set track points with streamline plain track ( the Hornby one is just for planning purposes ).

As the layout is being built with an eye to exhibition and like my other layout I exhibited , be set up for use by the "public" I think code 100 and set track points are that little bit more rugged.

As for running qualities I have never really found set track points to be a problem even with short wheelbase loco's.

Thanks for the alternative plans as well , I will have a mess about and see what works .

I agree here never had a real problem, now I've said that I will proberly see overwise lol.

Well its been a while since I last posted anything , the layout has kind of been on the backburner for a while and not a great deal has changed .

A new structure has appeared as a corner filler , scratchbuilt from Wills sheets and a nice pile of knackered old pallets to give a sense of purpose to the yard area ;
