David,

May I refer back to your first post and point out that Weydon Road is 0 scale and not P4?

We are really looking forward to coming.

Julian

Thanks for updating.

Hello

We have setup a competition in conjunction with UK Model Shops, for a chance for you to win one of four adult tickets to Railex.

The preview for this can be seen on their website below:

You will be able to enter the competition from this coming Saturday!

I get the same thing every year traders and society asking if they can be squeezed in to Railex, we have the traders who support us the previous year get the invites to come the next year. In most cases they all return.

Other questions I get asked is there early entry for advance ticket holders, due to the amount of visitors we get we don't have the area to either split or hold people to do this.

We also due to the age of build we are unable to accommodate wheelchairs or scooters on the vintage bus, there is dedicated disabled parking at the stadium for those with mobility issues.

Anyway only a month to Railex still plenty to do but I have feeling this is going to be quite a good show. Aylesbury LNWR is featured in the May issue of BRM.

Hello

The May issue of BRM is out today, and you can see the article about the layout Aylesbury LNWR, that will be exhibited by the Risborough & District Model railway Club at Railex 2016, great photos by Andy York.  Plus there is also a piece on the DVD by one of our Club Members’ Andrew David, who talks about the layout and the history of the line.

Thanks

That's interesting. So in effect RailEx becomes a closed shop.

As per any exhibition all the layouts and trade are booked well in advance, to list our traders on the rear of the flyers which are printed in September/October and to go to other shows most importantly Warley, we need to know who is attending. So invites are sent to traders shortly after the previous show.

As Railex is a modellers show we want trade stands that are important to modellers rather than collectors or families hence we have mostly traders who are also manufacture their own range of bits and pieces. I am sure most of our visitors would rather have these rather than more box traders or second hand traders.

My point was that we have by 2-3 months before the show confirmed everything, done the floor plan and published the info on here and our web site, yet traders still ask if they can be squeezed in. It is not so much a closed show more like advanced planning.

... and there is a certain style of trader who asks at the last moment.  A jumble of unpriced tat appears from out of a 30 year old Volvo estate onto the table, under the table and much of the aisle.

Then when it comes to stand rental, "sorry, wife's just left with the takings, I'll post a cheque tomorrow".  ???!!!???

Bill

PS - remember to cone off my parking space.

One of the benefits (which are numerous) of a visit to Railex is the secure knowledge that particular traders will be there  - just as important as knowing which layouts will be there especially if you can't get to other shows (and May is crowded with shows/events and I can hardly expect release from the ball & chain to attend all of them which are near at hand let alone those that are further afield).

Just had another can you fit me in email!

When I started Railex I invited those traders who I like to see at a show, most who decided to support us the first year are still coming. There is natural wastage, retirement, mergers of companies death etc. But I think now everyone who I wanted  to come back in 2005 as a trader now does although I would like Brassmasters for the full set! The only new trader for 2016 is Modelu and as stated before our book trader has been replaced by Bill Hudson.

For a show that is open 14 hours a year to the public there is quite a bit of effort that goes in!

Alex at Derby has followed a similar strategy of bringing in more specialist traders and so for example this year we had ModelU, Severn Models, Smart Models, C&L Finescale, Gladiator, Brunel and Recreation 21 who are all manufacturer / trader rather than 'just OO ready to run'. Many of the traders were 'inherited' from the old exhibition manager and a few have supported every show we have done for the past 35 years and so although there is duplication and they are competing with each other, we can't just ignore them when it comes to an invitation for next year. As it is, all traders were given their 2017 letter at the show and many have already completed the paperwork and paid their deposit. Now where do we find the extra 24ft that Derek wants for Eileen's !!

Only a couple of weeks to go, There are still bits I need to do, and even with a note on the web page I am still getting people who want me to squeeze there trade stand in!

Saturday night social booked I have hired a whole pub this year, they are closing their doors to the general public to accommodate sixty people arriving on our Routemaster for our beer and buffet. I was chatting to the landlord on Monday and he is going to try to make sure some of his nine real ales he has on are railway related! as he did have Narrow Gauge on which was very tasty!

We are just sorting out the times for the vintage shuttle bus, as we need to try and get it to work with the train times yet avoid the service busses too.
