Having been a regular contributor of prototype pics to this site for a while, I thought it was about time I added some pics of my models.

I tend to have two areas of interest, up-to-date (ish!!) and stuff I can remember seeing whilst on holiday as a kid, generally in Devon and Cornwall.

As I would consider myself to be a fairly average modeller, I'm hoping that by putting my creations on here, it will push me to improve my skills.

All comments welcome.

The latest loco to leave my bench is 50046 Ajax.

I've tried to recreate the look of the last time I saw her in service, not long before her demise, with faded paintwork, missing crests, etc.

Cheers,

Phil.

About time too young man, excellent stuff as always Phil :sungum: :sungum:

However, i do believe your underselling yourself here aren't you because if I remember correctly I don't believe to have bought any 50's recently especially not any with black roofs that are currently available...........Now how many more of these fine machines have you got to show us :O

Actually, I've acquired 2 50's in the last few weeks, both of them being Ark Royal's !

Ajax is the 38th member of the class I've completed, finished from an Ark Royal.

Warspite is the 39th member of my Hoover fleet, same basic livery as Ajax, but not as careworn.

Cheers,

Phil.

Hi NL,

I'm trying to keep some consistency on such an easily seen part of the loco's, so i'm hoping that the roof pods are eventually available as a spare part from Hornby and I can add them to quite a few of my fleet !

Isn't it a nuisance having to sort out the dent left in the bodywork after getting the crests off 035 ?!

Cheers,

Phil.

More pics to be added tomorrow, probably of my more up-to-date stuff.

A bit more up-to-date.

Just waiting for the nameplates to be produced, and I'm not sure what I think to the 'bag' over the dropdown coupling, so I may re-do that at some stage.

Cheers,

Phil.

Hi Phil - yes those crests also left a mark on my shell as well where the glue had reacted with the plastic, but some careful feathering in of blue and its almost invisible now, not sure if the pods are available as spares as I think theyre moulded onto the bodyshell

They are definitely separate, at least on some of the models.

I've re-worked a 50045 from revised NSE into 50001 in it's post re-furb plain blue livery, the radio pods just pinged off the roof !

Usually I just smooth over the mark with filler and repaint the blue, but on Ajax I left the dint, it seemed appropriate for the stolen crests.

Cheers,

Phil.

I saw 67027 a couple of days after it was repainted and thought it looked really smart.

I've got a motorless super-detail skip, that I picked up cheap, so 67013 might join it at some time, to top-&-tail a test train

Cheers,

Phil.

I started a S-kits KWA wagon kit last night, I soldered up the bogies and cut the runner system off the body.

I've already built one of these, quite a few years ago, so pics included of that one too.

I'm not too sure how appropriate the load is, but it looked ok to me.

More updates on this as the build progresses.

Cheers,

Phil.

I can't see any reason why it couldn't be built just using glue. I only solder the bogies together because it's easier to get them apart when I make a mess of the first attempt !

Nothing else is soldered, the Brass parts and the buffers are glued in place.

Several parts are now in the airing cupboard after being sprayed in primer. The bogies were brush painted.

Cheers,

Phil.

I've been working on a 50048 Dauntless, altering it to 50023 Howe.

This means altering a 'Doncaster painted' version into the more typical version of early NSE livery.

So far I've painted the roof Black, down to the cantrail level, painted the upper White stripe below cantrail level, painted the upper part of the cab door White, widened the angle Red stripe, and repainted the Yellow ends to a more realistic shade.

This still isn't an absolute recreation of the livery, but it looks more like the prototype to me !

Pic on the left is a standard Hornby model, on the right is progress so far. More updates as work progresses.

Cheers,

Phil.

Finally found this..

Nice work Phil.

Did you remove the handrails before painting? They can be a bit of a b**ger as they're softish plastic. Very easy to bend them putting them back. Whenever I remove handrails for painting, I re-drill the holes 0.45mm, so they fit back in without any resistance.

Keep up the good work.

Just acquired my second 50 today to do as one of the Boden fleet. (The first 50 was actually sold a couple of years ago). I will be asking for detail advice...............

See you at Warley?

Cheers,

Mick

Hi Mick,

Cheers!

I did re-drill the holes, I'm hoping its just a case of careless handling & they can be manipulated back straight !

If not, it looks like i'll be making some wire ones...

Not sure if I can make Warley, but if I do i'll come say Hi.

Cheers,

Phil.

Another enjoyable, but time-consuming project was this pair.

As well as the array of Shawplan etched parts used, I used some of Brians excellent plastic WIPAC light cluster parts, which made the job far easier than cutting and drilling plastic sheet !

The locos have working head/tail lights at the cab ends.

Cheers,

Phil.

A loco that I just had to model when it went back on the mainline, after seeing it, completely by chance, blasting through Rugby station on the Pretendolino set! :locomotive:

One of the red tail lights has been replaced with a 'headlight', as per the real thing.

Cheers,

Phil.
