RMweb Gold Manxcat Posted December 29, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 29, 2015 Let's Talk MODEL RAIL SCOTLAND 2016 It is just over 8 short weeks until Hall 3 of the SECC in Glasgow will resound again to the hubbub of Scotland's premier model railway show. 2016 will mark the 50th anniversary of the show. For this Golden Anniversary event the Exhibition Team have put together what promises to be a very special show with at least 57 layouts of varied scales and gauges from all over the UK. There will be a mix of preservation societies and hobby supporters and of course a wide and varied selection of trade stands and model railway manufacturers. The show opens on Friday 26th February from 11am to 6pm; on Saturday 27th February from 10am to 6pm and on Sunday 28th February from 10am to 5pm. Advance tickets have been on sale for some time now and, as always, advance ticket holders will be admitted 30 minutes before those visitors buying their ticket on the day of the show. The adult and family ticket price this year includes a free copy of the comprehensive exhibition guide printed to the same high quality as always. On sale exclusively at the show this year is a special limited edition locomotive. This is a Bachmann Class 08 diesel shunter in Malcolm Rail livery. The production run is limited to 512 models and pre-orders are being taken now for collection at the show. Priced at £89.95 the pre-orders for this loco are mounting so if you want to secure one, get your pre-order in now. Full details of how to do this and lots more about the show can be found on our website at www.modelrail-scotland.co.uk Myself and the team look forward to seeing you at the show. RMweb Premium Craig Watson Posted December 30, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 30, 2015 Looking forward to exhibiting my Canadian HO layout "West Pickering" at the show representing Bonnybridge Model Railway Club. Also on the subject of the 08 I had one in my hands yesterday at our organisers meeting and managed to grab a quick pic, very nice, I have one ordered for my "Heavy Traffic" layout. Cheers Craig
RMweb Premium Legend Posted December 30, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 30, 2015 Very much looking forward to it. My first one was 1968 or 69 . My parents took me . In these days it was in MacLellan Galleries. Fondly remembered. Thereafter from about 74 I was allowed to go by myself and haven't missed a year since. Was it 87 it was in Halls at Anderson and then finally moved to it's "new" home of SECC with it's expensive car parks! Great exhibition . Like all some years are better than others but really looking forward to the 50th. There is an exhibition, end of January, at Irvine. Much smaller , of course, but keeps me going till the big one!

RMweb Gold Scottish Modeller Posted January 3, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 3, 2016 HI all, Scottish Modellers will be present as usual.... This year we are taking Keith's layout - Bere Banks - British Rail (Western Region) - to the show. As usual we will have or DEMO stand running showing 'How To' for a variety of modelling subjects. We will also be supporting DEMU with the society stand. What are we demoing? Watch this space as we are still to firm things up! What do I know - so far? DCC - Decoder Fitting - sound and plain DCC chip fitting. Locomotive and Multiple Unit Modelling - Bash up your Lima/Hornby Class 156 - Detailing with the Hurst Models pack and from plain old plastic section. Road Vehicles - Kit bash you transport fleet using whatever is available. Wagon modelling - TTA. PAA, OTA plus whatever else we have in process. Track and Points - Build your own to suit your layout. Possibly 2FS and OO Finescale. That should keep us busy! All subject to change though.... Thanks
devonseasider
Well, various members of the Peco team have been telling me for ages what a good exhibition it is, high standard of modelling & very friendly, so I'm finally going to head north in February. (Actually, I did visit once before - about 45 years ago when the show was in the middle of the city - McClellan Galleries? - but that was another time, another life!) I've persuaded Mrs DevonSS that she'd really like to see the art galleries & the Charles Rennie Wotsit stuff, so while she does that I'll be in the SECC. And we can have a couple of days looking around together, destinations depending on the weather! (any suggestions gratefully received). The dog's booked into his holiday cottage for a few days, I bought an advance ticket at Warley, we've got what seems like a good hotel deal and early booking the flights from Exeter cost little more than a train to London. Really looking forward to it. All I'm hoping now is that the hotel breakfasts are good (!) and that the clansmen are as friendly towards a Sassenach as I've been led to believe . . . . vitalspark
Graham you'll be made very welcome and we appreciate the long journey you are making to visit. Loads of things to fill a couple of days..as said Art Galleries are well worth a visit also the Riverside museum is practically next door to the Exhibition Centre and has loads of interesting stuff..locomotives and trams amongst the many other exhibits.. used to be called the Transport museum but now the slant is on social history so some feel its a bit diluted now but plenty trams and trains and other interesting stuff reflecting the history of Glasgow so well worth a visit. When you visit the Art Galleries take a trip on the Subway from the city and alight at Kelvin Hall..turn left from station and galleries a few minutes along same side of road easier than buses and another experience…the only underground in UK outside London. Also depending on weather you could do worse than a trip on an open top tour bus which run regularly and call by the exhibition centre. Enjoy your trip ..I am part of the group operating Alloa so may see you. Dave
devonseasider
Dave - thanks for that. All duly noted. Without wishing to appear patronising, Alloa is one of the layouts I'm looking forward to seeing "in the flesh". Looks good in photos & brings back memories of a mid-sixties trip hunting down the remaining NBR 0-6-0s and a few strange-looking little diesel shunters. 60159
I look forward to the confusion when Alloa's four operators are Dave, Dave, David and Davy all on duty at the one time. Masochist! 4 x "call me Dave" is just too much to contemplate. However, we can offer Chas n Dave from within our group as another distraction as long as they don't emulate their repertoire. Comfortingly our Chas has good taste in music (at least in my opinion).
60159
I think the world and I need clarification on some of this worrying Dave situation. Can anyone tell me if Mad McCann (something nice, if not Welsh, about having a double letter in your name) is Dave "Mad" McCann or Mad "Dave" McCann?
