Think I'll wait till the prototype appears in that condition. We've been caught out before by NRM exclusive Scotsmen models! :-)

Perhaps we'll have a 'paint your own Flying Scotsman' pack too, with the loco in black undercoat. Supplied with bushes and tins of paint in apple green, BR green etc etc. Transfers with a choice of numbers too, 4472, 103 and 60103.

Yuk to the finish and lets milk every version of Scotsman even more.

Arguably if this set even slightly diminishes the drain on the national coffers to keep the old pile of bits running, it's worthwhile.  Punters can pick the horses they want to back.

There can't be much left! After mr Riley had finished.... I bet there could be a rusting hulk under a tarp... It's painted black and rust... No number no name plates... Heading off to the recyclers in the near future. The loco running on the main line must be brand new!

I very much doubt they will ever tool up a new 2nd tender. It's just wouldn't be worth the cost.

I'm surprised that no one has done the classic 1960.s as preserved Scotsman. Potential for 2 variants, 1963 single tender as overhauled at Doncaster then a twin tender as overhauled at Darlington. Definately needs to be a newly tooled second tender though. With 'transition era' apparently being the most popular modelling era I would have thought a 1960's Scotsman was a dead cert limited edition winner.

That would be great, although look what they did on the last release of the BR Bittern. The additional tender was a throwback to Triang-Hornby days !!!!!

A habit recently perpetuated with the release of the Winston Churchill funeral "car" with its over -sized tension lock couplings.. off topic,I know.

But extremely relevent Ian.

I'm afraid it ruins the whole set......which I feel is ridiculously overpriced. This Locomotion set.....herein being put to the sword by those who either dislike gloss finish or have a jaundiced view of the Flying Scotsman in more general terms........is a more attracts package to my eyes. The gloss....successfully used recently ( and specified by Locomotion ) in their King George V livens up Hornby's anaemic BR green no end. I think its success has encouraged Hornby to finish its Apple Green A4/A4 set currently forthcoming in gloss ( Fingers crossed that it appears, given present circumstances)

Commissions such as this put money in Locomotion's tills and give an ailing Hornby a much needed boost. It is £185 and will I know set teeth a-gnashing.As a number 1 Locomotion fan,I'll shortly be signing in with Sandra....and Simon ......and Brian. At this particular moment, the Model Railway trade needs outfits like Locomotion,Kernow and Hattons more so than ever......more power to their elbow.!

They have kind of done this with the USA train pack. Double tender loco drive engine in overhauled condition. used to have one - bloody good model

Not really, that set is specific to the USA trip (so post 1969) and features the old style tender which jars with the much finer Sanda Kan A3.

Hope that there is no ugly seam down the boiler nor daylight between chassis and tender body like my Royal duties one !!

In a similar vein, I'm hoping that the significant problems seen with other recent A3 models - e.g. a running plate that resembles a ski jump - are absent here. If not then £180-odd quid for a railroad coach and a loco that requires significant remediation doesn't represent good value for money (IMO), no matter how worthwhile the cause it supports.

Cheers

Adrian

The 2nd tender is the old style one, but the loco and tender is the new A3 from 2005/2006

So far, all the runs 60103 has had on the mainline since overhaul has seen it paired with one of Ian Riley's support coaches (a maroon Mk2 BFK). I presume at some point it will run with the NRM Support Coach. Or will this only be if she goes back to being directly run by the NRM?

I for one am happy running my 'Scotsman 2011(!)' Sanda Kan 4472 A3 (as I'm hoping she will eventually appear - 4472, A3 boiler, and smoke deflectors), with my Bachmann NRM support coach, complete with close-coupling to corridor tender!

One hopes Hornby correct the position of the OHL flashes before sign off - one should be between the rear and penultimate washout plug, and the other at the front of the boiler. Either that or resposition them on the loco to match the model (the latter may be easier!).

I have reserved my pack. I originally was critical of the price but the more I think about it, it is a worthy cause as it will help to keep the loco running. The Gloss finish on my King looks great so I am very confident that 60103 will look good too.
