I have been weathering one of my Pecketts today. I polished the superstructure with T-Cut before weathering with a wash, dry-brushing and powders. she will be on parade at Kettering on Saturday. No airbrushes were harmed during this task. The shunter's pole is courtesy of Simon D of this parish.

Lovely weathering Chris,

There's a nice lived in sheen to this model and really goes to show an airbrush isn't necessary for great weathering effects.

Cheers.

Thanks for the compliment Mark. I worked hard to get the sheen with T-Cut trying to simulate dirt over the polished paintwork. There other owners who are also polishing their Pecketts before weathering. Giles Flavell of "End of the Line" and "Denton Brook"  fame is the master of the technique.

I have painted the wheels and tank front with Railmatch Doncaster Green. it seems to be a good match. I also painted the rods.

Very nice. I like the standpipe on the depot. More pictures please.

Ian Dunn recently sent us a couple of photos of his Minerva  black Peckett decked out as BR 1143. The superb weathering is done with Tamiya Weathering Master set B, Rust, Soot and Snow. We particularly like the small pile of ash under the smokebox door. The injectors are Warren Shepherd GWR Pannier and the lamp brackets are Laurie Griffin rather than the etched brass ones included with the model. The loco is fitted with DCC sound by Nigel Smith.

Please feel free to post photos of your Minerva Pecketts on this forum.

Regards,

Chris K and Chris B

Well I took the plunge, with a Kerr Stuart on order for later in the year, I acquired its stablemate last week from NG Trains, a DCC Sound equipped Peckett.  Full marks to Minerva the model is superb and to Paul at NG Trains, the DCC sound is some of the best i've heard for steam - yes I can pick holes if i really really wanted to - but it really is superb and very realistic.  Also very controllable, more so than anything else i've come across so 9.9 out of 10 to both!

Thought i'd post a pic of the new arrival sat in my part-built shed this evening.  It was simmering away, but the photo doesn't quite convey that!  Looking forward to its stablemate appearing alongside!

Thank you for the compliments. The wet floor of the shed is very convincing.

Since I posted the previous photo I felt there was something not quite right with my E class Peckett. It was that the cab steps and the valance under the running plate really ought to be green and not black. I have rectified that and have added more dirt to the frames, wheels and rods. It also has another oil can on the running plate, plus a wrench and a shovel for cleaning out the smokebox.

Tamiya NATO green is also a pretty good match for the main colour.

Very nice job Dave. The cauldron wagons are also very nice.

Don Mason recently wrote to us describing the rapid deterioration in the external condition of his Minerva Peckett shortly after it arrived in the post. Perhaps we should include scaled-down cotton waste with our locos.

I have started to do something very similar and equally drastic (but not quite so drastic as with my Ixion Hudswell Clarke!) but well done on beating me to it 1f642.png  I also used that photo (along with others) for inspiration.    David

"And since it's turned brass, it is a bit challenging!"

Hah! I do know what you mean but I am up for challenges!  Did you see the 'challenges' that I created for myself when I reworked the excellent Ixion Hudswell Clarke into a close(ish) resemblance of GCR, former contractors' loco, Humber?

Here is my replacement turned chimney:

and the rods, for example:

I have started weathering another Minerva Peckett, this time BR 1143. The first stage is the polishing of the superstructure with T-Cut and cotton buds. Already this is starting to create a more convincing appearance. I have included a Charles Atlas "before" photo for comparison. Next task is to muck up the chassis and running gear and that will be followed by a heavily thinned wash of Humbrol Enamel Matt 32 grey on the superstructure followed by more polishing. I also intend to remount the smokebox numberplate with small brackets to keep it perpendicular.
