Baby Deltic
Being the lazy git and total chancer that I am, I thought I'd ask here first before I spend hours trawling through books. The question(s) are this: 1/ Were any class 31's embellished with a double arrow symbol in GSYP? 2/ Were any class 31's still carrying the totem symbol in GFYE? Edit: I've answered the second question using Brush Veteran's pictures/ Edited March 4, 2016 by Baby Deltic
RMweb Premium Ian Smeeton Posted March 4, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 4, 2016 I am sure that at least one 31 in green had double arrows. David Ford of this parish would be the man to ask. I am fairly sure that at least one has appeared in his thread. I seem to recall that it was one of the High Dyke/Stainby/Skilington sets of photos. BrushVeteran
Hi Lloyd Yes to your first question. There were at least half a dozen from memory............I think D5610 was one. I'll have a scout through my photo albums and make a list and report back on here later. G

BrushVeteran
Lloyd I've had a quick look through what I have and have got additionally to what has been mentioned already D5643 and D5825. You can quite safely use, D5595 D5610, D5643 and D5677 as they were at Finsbury Park whilst in that livery and of course D5513 would have been over the NLR lines quite regularly, there is a picture of that on the BV archive. Swindon 123
Most of the answers are provided already, but in addition 1) Yes, 5513, 5595, 5610, 5677, 5685, 5802, and 5815 2) At least 105 locos had GFYE with totem 5513 is an interesting one. I've seen a photo of it looking ex-works at Doncaster with SYP & arrows at the end of 67, and then in 1970 with FYE. Anyone have any idea when it gained FYE and then was painted blue please. Paul J. Baby Deltic
Gentlemen, as always thank you very much for your replies and info. I have another class 31 livery question regarding the skinhead that reputedly kept it's white glasses whilst gaining a small yellow panel (D5504?). Does anyone have a picture of it in this livery?
RMweb Gold stovepipe Posted March 5, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 5, 2016 D5513 was re-engined in May 1968, so almost certainly gained full yellow ends then. Here's an August 1968 pic. Finding when it went blue is more difficult, but normal repaint frequencies would indicate around 1972.

I have another class 31 livery question regarding the skinhead that reputedly kept it's white glasses whilst gaining a small yellow panel (D5504?). Does anyone have a picture of it in this livery? Looks like D5515 might have kept the white window surrounds with SYP for a while. http://www.rail-online.co.uk/p857901357/h29f11302#h29f11302
BrushVeteran
There were two like this Lloyd, D5501 and D5515. D5501 is on Barking Bill's website and there is also a Colour-Rail shot of it whilst D5515 is on the Rail-Online site. D5513 was SYP with arrows in 6-9-67 and LYE by 10-68. BrushVeteran
Whilst on the subject of early Class 30/31's I have seen ac partial image from David Percival of D5514 in GLYE with Rail Alphabet font otherwise similar to D5513. RMweb Gold stovepipe Posted March 7, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 7, 2016 5513 was seen at Liverpool Street in blue with four bodyside numbers, and four cabside arrows on 23 March 1972. It looks to have been blue for a few months already.
