torqueofthedevil
The last two times I have been to Shrewsbury Model Centre, it has been locked up - has the shop closed or are they simply away?
Tim V
I can't help there but I remember going there while on holiday circa 1971 and being impressed.
RMweb Gold big jim Posted March 8, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) Yes they have shut down for good, it was about October last year iirc I miss their shop in the town centre, always a place to visit during my PNB with arriva, the shop up at battlefield was not too bad but you needed a car to get to it so I didn't get much of a chance to get there as I used to when it moved I bought a lot of 2nd hand off dave through the years shame to see it shut Edited March 8, 2016 by big jim

steveb860
I can't help there but I remember going there while on holiday circa 1971 and being impressed. Are you thinking of Hobby Specialist at the bottom of Wyle Cop, a different shop to the one mentioned in this topic?
RMweb Gold ian Posted June 14, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 14, 2016 No, Hobby Specialsts closed years ago. Shrewsbury Model Centre closed last October or thereabouts. There's me, well out of town: Modelscape Other than that you are off to the SVR at Bridgnorth or Topps at Stafford!

Is the postcode right on the modelscape website, the one at the bottom of the page sends me to the Upton magma area, SY4 4QU not 4UQ seems to take me to the right place on Google To add to your list of alternatives if your heading north there is always trident trains between Whitchurch and Nantwich or even Dapol in chirk

Got me there, it was 45 years ago, and I was on foot. I was just back from volunteering on the Festiniog deviation, called in at Shrewsbury. Street view looks like that sort of place. gismorail
The shop was on the Battlefield Industrial est if it's the one I used a couple of times
Quarryscapes
Used to spend a lot of time (and money) in SMC when we were young, back in the days when it was on St Johns Hill. Shame to see it's no more. There also used to be a model shop in Ellesmere, don't know if that's still going?
RMweb Gold big jim Posted June 16, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 16, 2016 The ellesmere one didn't last long unfortunatly, also there was one in Newport which I used a fair bit but again now closed

Shrewsbury model centre did not exist then, only Hobby specialist , run by family friends Len & Kay Smith and their son Tony, which sadly closed some years ago.. RMweb Gold big jim Posted June 16, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 16, 2016 There used to be one down a back street near abbey Forgate box too, not much in the way of railway stuff but good for paint, evergreen etc
RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted June 16, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 16, 2016 Not a model railway shop but you can get a few useful bits such as paint, balsa and Evergreen (limited) at the dolls house place in the Parade Shopping Centre. The guy is very helpful and ordered me some HO corrugated metal a while ago (from the USA - he stocked it but didn't have enough). There is also a shop there which sells "vintage" model railway stuff - not my scene. Jonathan
RMweb Gold Happy Hippo Posted June 16, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 16, 2016 The nearest decent traditional decent model shop to Telford is either Modeller's Mecca in Kingswinford or Topps Trains in Stafford. However, we must also remember that Ian Morton has Modelscape on the Rodenhurst Business Park.

Plus Footplate in Kidderminster (although the SVR can be cheaper for Bachmann & Graham Farish - well stocked at Bridgnorth Station)

RMweb Premium Scottish-Exile Posted November 15, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 15, 2017 (edited) Stumbled across Salopian Models this evening which appeared as a Google promoted link in my browser. Looking at their Facebook page, entries begin on 6th September where he notes he's made his first order with Hornby/Airfix/Scalectric etc. So, looks like there is a new model shop in Shrewsbury market. I pass by Shrewsbury on the A5 / M54 link once or twice a week, but never at hours that would allow me to pop in to check them out. However, good to see a model shop bucking the trend and actually opening, so I wish them well. I'll start a new thread to give them some prominence rather than keep this one going. https://salopianmodels.com/ Salopian ModelsStall 5, Shrewsbury Indoor Market Hall, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England, United Kingdom 07951241343 Edited November 15, 2017 by Scottish-Exile
