jazz
Hi. Further work done and I had thought I had finished all the pipework, I had forgotten the front end didn't I. Anyway, very little left to do now then ready for cleaning and starting the priming.
jazz
Hi. The build is finished at last. The only exception is to make the drawbar, a simple swivel hook and eye affair for quick easy coupling loco to tender. Tomorrow is strip it down for cleaning and priming.

jazz
Hi. Got the Clan all finished and reassembled this morning. The next loco is a blast from the past, The George Norton MR Johnson 2F tender loco. (This became a London Road kit) My kit was acquired without any instructions. Research online I see Peter Cross has built one in 2013. I may be tapping his knowledge of the build if I come unstuck. I have great respect for his skills and know he will have it built correctly. Anyway, here is the Clan.

jazz
Hi. A good start on the Geo Norton MR 2F kit. Considering it was designed 1989/90, it's not bad. A few minor discrepancies in the fit that was easily solved. It was racing ahead as it's a basic kit by todays standards. The first photo shows the Metalsmith bending bars making the flares on the sides/rear. The rest on the build was easy. I did not like the way the front of the chassis attaches to to body at all. So I'm not using the nut & bolt there. Instead the front end of the chassis will slip under a tab to hold it in place and the 6BA nut & bolt holding the rear end.
jazz
Hi. That's the tender boxed off. Now for the front end. The etches are not as good as the tender ones. (They were passible). I will need a bit more work on prepping for these. Here is the tender in the meantime.
jazz
Hi. Did prep and started the assembly. I have ordered some castings from Laurie Griffin, namely the later smokebox door and a pair of clack valves. I found a suitable brake ejector assembly for the smokebox side in my large scrap box. (Decades of modelling in 0 gauge has produced an impressive amount of parts of all kinds. Not always what you want but there you are) The Slater's GB30R 3M motor unit arrived this afternoon, I was surprised to see it had a Cannon motor, the last one of these I purchased had a Mashima fitted. So that should make for very good running. Here is todays progress. Edited May 29, 2018 by jazz
jazz
A bit more done today, not too bad a fit with everything tag a bit of tweaking did not fix. So on with the show as they say.
N15class
Looks good Ken. On mine I slid a bit of spare etch into the slot at the front of the boiler. This did two things fill those awful slots, and gives the boiler a front plate.

jazz
Thanks guys. Peter, that's exactly what I've done on the s/box front. The boiler has had lead weight solder inside so it's now a nice weight. Also I did not like the etched rivet on the s/box etch. So off they came and now has much more to scale ones. That took a fair bit of time to do that. I was very impressed with Laurie Griffin. I mailed the order for the castings on Tuesday along with a cheque. They arrived early this morning. That was just amazing service. Anyway here is the progress achieved today.
jazz
Hi. Except for the coupling rods it's finished. I discovered 2F 58246 and decided this is to be my model. The reason is it ran in all but original condition until scrapped in 1959. This will work very nicely on my early 1950's layout. She never had vacuum brakes, so they are not going to be fitted. The vac pipe has therefore been removed from the tender. All I need to decided shall I have the first BR livery for her as in 1948, which had LMS livery and the number 58246. OR as she ran as later with the BR livery of crest and BR style numerals. Decisions, decisions. Anyway this is how she will look.
N15class
I like these old Victorian locos even when not LSWR ones. Looks great as usual Ken.
jazz
Hi. Got the basic painting done today. The Slater's motor unit fits very nicely in the f/box from the rear axle. Just required a few mill off the motor 3mm off the motor shaft to have the motor exactly vertical, that means it will not be visible below the firebox. Tomorrow will see the 'detailing' paintwork finished and maybe the transfers applied if it all dries OK. Then the light weathering, coal, loco crew etc., etc. Very pleased how it all came together with not a great deal of tweaking to do. I did have some doubts at first.
bgman
Looking very nice Ken, as was said in Peters posting, these Victorian locomotives do have real character and you've captured it here. It does make me want to have one but as a GWR kinda guy I'd be hard pressed to see one running on my proposal .... then again ! The black does seem to suit it too. Grahame It's easy to justify one of these, just ditch the GWR and a whole new world opens up to you. Complete with locos that look better than the same old same old GWR. bgman
Got one of those in my cupboard to do. May I ask which one ( manufacturer ) Peter ? I purchased the Warren Shepard kit as I couldn't get my hands on any of the others last year. Grahame Edited June 2, 2018 by bgman
jazz
Hi. I'm a GWR man running a layout supposedly around the Wadebridge/Bodmin area. That also had Southern Beattie Well tanks on the line so I have no problem running the odd LMS loco as well as those southern jobs.

bgman
I agree with your post Ken but that would mean a shift of county from the South Wets West to somewhere totally different for me and despite the lovely looks of these locomotives the work I've done so far ( not a lot ! ) may be in vein ! And I'd have to put up with quite a lot of stick too !!! Yours Broad Gauge Shoulders
