EE3 tumblehome

Would anyone by any chance know how far the tumblehome is "bent" inwards by on the 37, please? Or the width of the fuel tanks which would give me the same answer.

I am about to try the "James Wells method" of putting a tumblehome into a Lima 37 (yes I know Bachmann make them as well...).

There are no 37's anywhere near me- either real railways or our local preserved steam siding and it would be cheating to measure the dimension from a Bachmann model.

As ever, any info for my never ending questions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Derek

Sounds interesting, correcting the errors on the Lima Type 3. Are you also going to make the cab doors the right length, the body side grilles the correct size, the windscreen the correct angle (this makes the cab side windows the right length) and the roof the right profile?

One will do one's best.

As long as it is properly detailed and looks like a 37 that'll do me. Even if someone wants to take a micrometer to it.

If you have a look at Mr Wells project I'm sure you will agree it looks the part (even if by his own admission some parts are dimensionally challenged).

Whereas most people seem to want 100% dimensionally accurate trains and are happy to run on non-accurate track (no judgement, just observation), I have spent the past 18 months drawing and re-drawing a tandem turnout in Templot to get it 100% accurate- but as long as the trains running over it look about right, that will do me fine.

There are quite a few things wrong with the Bachmann 37 as well btw. Though in this case it scores heavily over the Lima for its motor- the Lima motor encroaches into the cab and must therefore go- Penbits sprung bogies required so it seems.
