Detailing Triang Stock

Marakas

Recommended Posts

Hello out there! My plans continue slowly and diligently......

My latest question is - in the world of aircraft modelling, there are detailing sets available to update existing kits and make them look sharp and deep.

I am currently working on "modernising" a Triang 08 and class 31, is there anything other than repainting and decalling that I can do to enhance their appearance.

Generally the 31 looks quite good given its age, but the 08 clearly has some issues in the looks department!

Also, with regards to the 08, is their a straight replacement chassis available to make the wheel centres a bit more realistic??? Clearly the chassis was manufactured to serve a few different models!

Cheers all!

Hi Marakas

Not really my area, but Worsley Works does both a complete 08 and a complete replacement chassis for the Triang 08. For the latter see:

http://www.worsleyworks.co.uk/3mm/3mm_Loco_Bits.htm

It's the last item , at the bottom of the page. This is one of his fold-up chasses, which go together pretty well. Only area where I think some thought will be needed is how to approach the extended axles and outside crank. I see Worsley offers various possibilities.

Don't know the options re the Class 31. I believe you can re-motor them with alternative power bogies but not sure of the advantage.

If you're a member of the 3mm Society I'd suggest asking on the e-group, because both locomotives are popular and there will be somebody who knows what can be done with them. I've had a vague idea about a 14.2mm gauge class 31 myself, but it remains a vague idea, too much on my plate at the moment.

Cheers

Nigel

Hi Nigel

thank you, I have ordered a chassis, and look forward to tackling it. I have never built one before so I am in unchartered territory, but I suppose you have to start somewhere!!!

All the best

Mark

Best of luck. Remember, ask if you need help. As I said, the 3mm Society e-group is a good place for advice.

Re the chassis, thinking about it, it may rely on outside frames, which might complicate things a bit. But I suspect what Allen Doherty has done is use inside frames and made the outside frames dummies, in which case there shouldn't be a problem.
